Chapter 16

"Mom, am fine."

"Of course you're not." Mom freaked out when I told her what happened. I had no choice. I came back and she witnessed my mood and the red marks around my neck and the mark on my chin. "Just look at you. She disfigured your appearance."

"I wish she was right here so I can crumble her to small fold." Nadia was fuming too. She was standing here the whole time since I got to my room.

I sat up on the bed when mom brought in the lukewarm water and a glass of lemonade. "Here, have this."

I took the glass of chilled lemonade and took a little sip from it. "Thanks." I heaved a sigh. I really missed this drink for so long.

Mom sat beside me while Nadia sat on the chair across my vanity table. "I knew this day would come." Mom said and I turn to her with a frown. "Yes!" She gladly exclaimed. "Him coming back into your life when there's another woman behind his back, Diamond. Things can't go well like that."

I think she's right. But there's no need of advising me to leave George. Not now. Not ever. Even if it'll cost me my life, am still going to stick myself to him like a sticker.

"Aunt, George doesn't love Melissa." Nadia spoke for me.

"It doesn't matter if he loves her or not." Mom stated firmly. "But yet, they're still married. For how long is he going to keep on promising my daughter about divorcing that woman and making things right?"

"Mom…." I sighed tiredly. "I don't remember George promising me. We only told ourselves that we'll kick Melissa out of our lives for good and that, we're still trying to do."

"Then for how long?" Mom stare at me for a while, then at Nadia and back at me. "Talk to me, how long is he going to keep on processing it? Does he even know that you're carrying his second child yet?"

Oh shit. Tell me she didn't sneak into my drawer and saw the pregnancy test tube.

Nadia's eyes grew big like she could see the universe. She turn to me and gasp, "Diamond…. You're pregnant again…?"

What kind of question is that and why is she asking me?

Okay, come on, guys. Don't give me that look, okay? It started this morning when I went to take my bath.

I was feeling dizzy and sleepy, then all of a sudden, I turned weak and lazy. My instincts told me to stay home today and rest but when I remembered the keycard George gave me, I hesitated and gather up so guts to dress for work.

Even at the office, I was still trying to stay awake and remain vibrant. That was the reason why I wanted to get a coffee to keep my brain active before I bumped into that nonliving thing.

On my way home, I got a test tube because I was not too sure if these symptoms were just an ordinary fever.

I used it and waited for the result. After some minutes…..it showed positive.

Boom!

Am done for.

The little strength inside me dissipated after seeing the result. I didn't even know when Mom strode in and peek into my drawer.

It's really embarrassing what she did.

"Mom, you invaded my privacy."

"Forget about that." She dismissed my words as if they're irrelevant. "And tell me how are you going to go about this. Do you plan on telling him yet or you just want to think of the other way round?"

"Hell no! I won't hurt this baby." My brows creased. I place my hand on my flat stomach. "This child was conceived in love, so, am gonna keep it."

"Diamond, you're unbelievable." Nadia groaned frustratedly and rubbed her temple. "How could you get pregnant again in such condition? With the way things are now, do you just want to keep having babies for him like a baby factory with all these chaos involved?"

"Say all you want. Am still keeping this baby because I love George."

"Honey, nobody said you should terminate the pregnancy." Mom said. "Am just being concerned because am your mother and it is my responsibility to care for you. It's just that….it doesn't seem right you having babies for him when you two are not married – people will talk. Your Dad will be mad. It's like getting pregnant for a married man – it very shameful."

"As far as I already overcame the first embarrassment of having a child for a married man in the past, then the second is nothing to me." I said, my chin lifted.

I really don't care about what people will say or what my family members would think of me. I know if I tell George about this news, he'll volunteer I keep it.

There was great silence for a while. Mom and Nadia won't say anything to me. And I was getting curious what might be revolving in their heads.

Until Mom broke the boredom. "Well. I guess this is the reason why he volunteered to renovate the house."

"Renovate?" Both Nadia and I asked in unison and Mom nodded.

"Earlier in the morning, he had a one on one discussion with your Dad and Uncles and grandfathers. It was like an offer – a one time offer when he declared to change the interior and exterior of the mansion. He said it's a bit old and there's this design he has in mind to use here."

Before I could even say something, Nadia beamed. "Wow, that's cool. So, what did the others say?"

Mom shrugged. "Um, they hesitated at first. Though it's kinda tempting." Mom chuckled softly. "They agreed."

"And you guys didn't bother asking where we'd live if the construction starts." I cross my arms, still not satisfied on what my family or what George is doing.

"Well, he already fixed a place. So, until then, we'll be living here for a while."

Mom was grinning, likewise Nadia too. Nobody talked about the pregnancy or how am going to endure it for the next nine months coming.

I seriously need to talk with George. He has to stop.
