Chapter 4

As I go downstairs not only Kathy is there but Uncle Harvey and Aunt Iris are there too. I run towards them and hug them instantly. They hug me back and then my dad cleared his throat and said, “You don’t hug me like this, huh.” And pouts. Aww, my dad is jealous. Uncle Harvey laughs and hugs him, “It’s ok, man. I understand she is not an easy girl. I had to eat a lollipop to earn this hug.” My dad pats Uncle Harvey’s back in sympathy while Aunt Iris and Mom laugh and I pout. From the corner of my eye, I see Steve and Kathy talking to each other while laughing. Well, that’s a rare sight. Most of the time they are just bickering all the time.

I make my way to them while Mom, Dad, Aunt, and Uncle go toward the living room. “Excuse me love birds. What’s so funny you guys are talking about?” They both again laugh at seeing me. “First of all, stop with this love bird’s thing. And yeah, we are celebrating our freedom finally.” I narrow my eyes at them. What kind of freedom, huh? Steve noticed that I am still dumbfounded about the situation so he speaks, “Dear sister since you are going to be finally employed now you won’t bug us all the time about wasting our precious time with you.”

Well, I still have no idea what they are talking about so I ask, “What employment, guys? Say it in a way I understand.” Kathy comes to me and puts both her hands on my shoulder then takes a deep breath and well shouts, “You are having a meeting with the CEO of PARK PRODUCTIONS tomorrow, girl. You finally made it!” Uhh, I wanted to drop this bomb. Why the heck Steve couldn’t keep his mouth shut? Kathy was doing a really weird dance with hands up and legs just moving like, oh Gosh I can’t even describe it. She drags me into the dance too and I also start moving like her and I saw Steve making a disgusted face as he murmurs to himself, “I can’t believe she is my sister. Uhhh.” Well, this dance is not even that bad.

I woke up at 8 am with the help of my annoying alarm which kept ringing since 7 am. I go to the bathroom and take a shower and brush my teeth. I walk to my closet and take out a lemon-yellow long-sleeve shirt and a pair of brown jeans and my black and yellow joggers on it. I don’t have to wear a matching mask because I have a magical mask on my face which was on my face the moment I was born. You must be thinking how can I survive my whole life in the mask but the thing is that I can’t even feel the mask on my face and also the people who have the right to see my face can see my face even in the mask. So probably only the outside world can see my mask. Even if I haven’t seen myself that how do I look in a mask because I can’t see it?

After getting ready I make my way downstairs and see Steve eating a toast while standing. I smack him on the head and gesture for him to sit down. “I am getting late, girl. You have your breakfast. See you. Bye.” Steve says and takes a buttered bread in his hand and runs towards the door. I shout from behind, “Bye.” I eat two pancakes then drink my coffee and make my way to the door and then to my red Mercedes SUV and make my way to Stacy’s house. After beeping the horn for 5th time, Stacy finally came out limping not because she was injured but because she was trying to keep the things in her bag which was slung on her left shoulder. “Gosh, you are so clumsy. I am leaving if you don’t sit in the car on the count of three.” I speak seriously. “What the hell? Instead of helping you are blackmailing. What bad deeds did I ever do to have met you.” Stacy whined. “1. 2.” “Uhh, here I am. Let’s go now.”

As we both entered the class it was crowded as expected and I even heard people talking about Professor Maddox’s son attending this class today. Wait, what? Why would he attend a law class? But then again, I didn’t know him personally, Heck I haven’t even seen his face I only knew him as Professor Maddox’s son and CEO of PARK PRODUCTIONS so maybe he had more to it. Anyways who cares. I am having a meeting with him today evening so I have to just make sure I don’t run into him here.

I trailed out of my thoughts when someone knock on the table beside me, “Um, Can I sit here?” I didn’t recognize the person. He was not a student here. “Yeah, sure.” Still, I didn’t care about who sat beside me but the looks I was getting from my classmates told me that I did something wrong. But I just let a guy sit beside me. What’s the big deal?

Professor Maddox entered the class and started teaching. I was noting down the important things and suddenly a marker hit me on my head. I stood up confused but when I saw Stacy laughing beside me, I understood. “Stacy! Answer this question or get out of my class.” Professor Maddox shouted. Stacy was looking at me with pleading eyes so I pass my notebook to her and she gave the correct answer.

I saw that the boy sitting next to me was watching me as if I just murdered someone. I just shrugged and started paying attention to class. What’s wrong with him? I helped my friend and he is no one to judge me for that. Anyway, whatever. Who cares?

After the class just as I was about to stand up from my seat, I felt something on my hand. I turned back to look that the boy was holding my hand. I gave him a questioning look so he spoke, “Are you a singer?” I took my wrist from his grip and spoke sternly, “No, I am not a singer.” Of course, I can’t just roam around telling strangers that I am a singer and of course, no one I knew outside my World knew about me being a singer. Not even Stacy knew. I decided to tell her once I hit it big. Anyways I am more than good at keeping secrets.

I got outside the class and saw some people glancing at me. Of course, this is not new thanks to my mask but these glances were clearly about something else. I don’t care about those things so I made my way to the car and found Stacy waiting for me. “Oh dude, I would’ve made it outside the class if not for you. What good deeds did I ever do to have you? I wish I could repay your favor.” Stacy stated dramatically. “Come on darling, stop being dramatic and anyways you just repaid my favor,” I say as I take her laptop out of my bag.

“No, please not this. I am gonna watch the movie today which is downloaded in it. Please not today.” I just smile as she pleads and ignoring her go to the driving seat and start beeping the horn. Stacy sighs loudly and sits in the car. At her house, she was just whining about how I just ruined her day by taking her laptop and how she will have to indulge herself in house chores because of me. I just kept laughing the time. I just loved irritating her. When she got out of the car with a sad face and started going towards her doorsteps, I beep the horn and she turned around to see me standing in front of her with her laptop. “I am just letting you off the hook today because I think it’s a lucky day,” I say as I handed her the laptop. She ran to me and hug me shouting, “You are seriously the best person one could meet! Thank you!” I laugh at her as I pulled from the hug, “Well you just need to pray that whatever I do today just goes smoothly, okay?” “Don’t even worry about that. My prayers are always with you.” I smiled at her and then make my way to my 2nd house.

I find Kathy sitting in the living room watching a movie. I quickly hit her with my bag and gestured for her to come up into the room. She follows behind me and once when we are in the room. I ask, “So, what have you prepared?” She takes out a file from the drawer and speaks, “Look all your necessary information is in this file and I have even added your unreleased compositions, so I guess that will be enough for now. And about your dress, I have prepared it in the fashion store, so let me get you ready there.” Kathy is a fashion designer and even has a fashion store which she is running quite impressively at a such young age. At the Castle, I wear clothes prepared by my fashion designer but here I have a chance to choose clothes from Kathy’s boutique. That’s one of the reasons why I love living here. “Oh gosh, what would I have done without you,” I speak and side hugs her as we run down the stairs and to my car.

After wearing the black skin-fitted jeans with a white knit Henley top crew neck ribbed long sleeve t-shirt and a long grey coat, I make my way outside the changing room. “See, I knew this is gonna suit you. It’s a casual dress but it looks just fine so it’s no problem. I think as a singer it looks good.” Kathy spoke as she saw me. I gave her a reassuring smile, “Stop panicking Kathy. I am tensed but you are more tensed than me. Just chill, okay? It’s gonna be all right.” Kathy smiled at me and then hugged me, “I know, I am just nervous for you. Okay so now go and grab the opportunity with your true talent. If anything’s wrong just text me.” Oh man, if I don’t leave she’s gonna tear up. “Okay Kathy, Bye. Don’t worry. We will have a celebration dinner tonight for my wonderful interview.” I wink and she huffs and then I make my way toward the car and start going for my way to PARK PRODUCTIONS. I hope it goes well.
