Chapter 7

I knock on my parent’s room. My mom comes to the door and looks surprised on seeing me. Well of course she should be. I don’t go to their room usually so yeah makes sense. “Umm, Mom I want to ask something.” Mom smiles at me and lets me in. Dad is also sitting on the bed reading novel. Woo, this is one of Mary’s novels, ‘you can feel?’ I am seriously in love with her this novel It’s a fantasy novel and she pulled it off. I sit on the sofa and then speak, “Okay so Dad, if you would put that novel aside for a moment I would appreciate it.” Dad closes the book and faces me, “Okay princess. Whatever you say. By the way, this novel is super amazing. I am thinking about gifting Mary, a publishing company. She can write her novel and she will have her people to edit it and publish it.”

“Oh, Dad she is gonna love it. Seriously you should gift her that. It’s the best gift ever.” Mom nods her head in agreement, “Yeah, I agree too. She always wanted to have one but because of our problems, she couldn’t.” Actually, because of that accident, I got to live a normal life. But Mary has spent her whole life in this Castle. She got everything she wanted in this Castle. She said library, a library was built. She said café, a café was built. Just like that after a few years, the Castle turned into a city but still, she never got to go out to the Real World. Even after getting engaged, she was only allowed to go out with so many bodyguards, and that too she wasn’t allowed to step outside the car. I can’t even think about living a life like that. I am thankful to the accident for giving me this life, even if the accident was the worst thing that could’ve happened but you should be thankful to God for whatever happens, and this line fits here really well.

“Oh yeah, I wanted to tell you both that I have arranged a special dinner today for just three of us in the backyard garden. I have taken permission from Grandpa and Grandma so no need to worry about them. Please be there at 8 pm.” My mom suddenly had the brightest smile on her face. She came to me and hugged me. It’s been so long since Mom hugged me. I hug her back feeling her warmth. She looks at me with adoration as she speaks, “Thank you so much, love. This dinner means a lot to us.” Dad comes to me and pats my head, “Your mom is right. Thank you so much for preparing it for us. This means a lot.” Oops, it’s getting emotional. I am not good at this. “If it means so much then let’s wear matching dresses. I am wearing a green dress.” “Okay, done. It’s green then.”

I go to my room and the first thing I do is message Nancy to prepare a green color dress for me. Even Nancy hasn’t seen me. She prepares the dresses of Kathy’s size. I and Kathy are seriously carbon copies of each other. Our eyes, skin color, weight, height, and body shape are all the same. We even have similar choices in food and clothes. Sometimes I think Kathy is my twin instead of Steve. Well, indeed, Steve is not my twin not that he knows but at least it can’t be dramatic enough that Kathy is my twin.

After taking a bath when I come out my dress is already there in the changing room. It’s a dark green shirt with black jeans and white sneakers. First of all, I am damn surprised. She never gives me a shirt and jeans. It’s mostly a frock or skirt. I then find a piece of paper next to the shirt. I opened it and it says, This outfit was chosen by Madam Olivia, your mother. Woahh. Mom is so cool. There is even a silver chain and black jacket with it.

It’s 7:55 so I go towards the backyard garden to check if everything’s perfect. Just wow. This is unbelievable. It’s seriously so damn amazing. Addy deserves a big thank you for this. I go and sit on one of the chairs around the round table. Mom and Dad come in the meantime. Wait a second. I must be dreaming. Dad and Mom have worn the same green shirt with black jeans and even white sneakers. Wait a damn second, even the silver chain and black jacket are similar. To be honest they both look so young. Anyone would say they are my siblings. “Mom. Dad. You both look so amazing. I don’t even feel like I am your daughter. I feel like I am your younger sister. When did you get so young?” My Mom laughs and says, “Come on, you are exaggerating now. By the way, if I look that much cool then how about a selfie?” My dad laughs at Mom’s antics, “Um you know I look even cooler than you. Well, I was born handsome.” I laugh at them and stiffen my shirt, “To be honest, don’t you guys think that I look cooler? Like that’s not even something to say. It’s so visible that even a blind would say that.” There was silence for a moment and then we all started laughing.

“Dad, can you pass me the corn salad?” Dad passes me the bowl while he speaks, “So, how’s your study going?” I speak while taking a spoonful of rice, “Study is going great, Dad. I have my final exams starting next week and then we will start law practicing.” Now, Mom asks, “How’s your preparation then?” “You don’t even need to ask that. I am sure her whole syllabus would have been finished and she would be now revising everything for 3rd time.” Wait, this is Steve’s voice.

I turn around and saw Steve making his way toward us. Wait, he is wearing the same dress as well. He comes and sits on the chair beside me. “Well, I knew you guys would never invite me so I invited myself as the eldest and the only son of the family.” I put my hands around his shoulder, “Oh God, I told Addy to lock you in the room. How did you come out?” His eyes pop out and he crosses his arms as he stands up, “Oh okay then enjoy yourselves, guys. I am gonna lock myself in the room.” I instantly stand up and hold his, “Um, Steve. I was just kidding. I am sorry, I didn’t mean to hurt you.”

He sits on the chair again and lets out a laugh, “Huh, I was kidding too. Payback is a bitch, girl.” My mom whispers to Dad in their language, “They are so weird.” Steve and I speak, “Mom, we can hear you.” We then continue eating again, talking about my and Steve’s studies when suddenly Steve speaks, “By the way mom, Dad, I just had this thought that just look at the arrangements and all, Jenny told Addy to do it in the afternoon and by now he did it too despite him being so busy all the time. You guys know how much busy Addy is on weekdays he only comes home at dinner time and then he is so tired that he sleeps. But whenever Jenny tells him anything, he does it instantly for her.”

My mom and dad seem to think about it for a while. Even I never understood this though. He is a person whose things no one can touch without his permission, but I even take his favorite clothes but he never says anything. I always thought that was weird but that may be because he takes me as his younger sister. No not maybe but definitely. Oh god, what was I even thinking? This Steve, huh? Suddenly Steve starts laughing out loud, “Oh my god, look at your faces. You guys are so hilarious.”’ My mom hits him on his head, “Oh man, this boy is never gonna change.” My dad also shakes his head, “You are so right. I nearly got fooled.”

I lay down on my bed thinking about what I would say tomorrow. Am I doing the right thing? Will I not regret it later? What if e is not trustworthy? What is the answer to all these questions? Umm. Oh yes! Lisa! Why didn’t I think about this before? I quickly text Lisa. Tomorrow at 10 am at the subway near your house.
