Valerie's eyes went wide, the shock of Trey's words rendering her immobile. Melissa used the opportunity to pull Alexandra away to Trey's side, so grateful he'd come when he had. Trey's anger filled eyes softened a little when he looked down at Lexi. 


He grabbed her shoulders, keeping her at arms length as his eyes raked her small form for bruises. Satisfied there were none, he pulled her chin up to make her look at him. The unshed tears in her eyes pricked at him and he felt his anger soar to new levels. 


He turned to Melissa, dropping his hand from Alexandra's chin. "Take her upstairs," he gritted through clenched teeth. When Lexi opened her mouth, he silenced her with a glare. "And stay there till I say otherwise," he added, leaning down so he was looking in her eyes, "I mean it."
