Chapter 65: The Beloved Girl of the Heaven - Laura
This was the typical method used by the Undead Mercenary Group. They would first kill the people in the surrounding villages, turning them into an army of Undead Creatures to attack their target. Although these Undead Creatures were low-level, their attack strength was not weak. Undead Creatures were generally powerful, and coupled with their fearlessness and resistance to pain, they fought recklessly, a method that no intelligent race would willingly face.
The Markey Family held a prestigious position on the continent, and their strength was considerable. As a result, most people would not dare to provoke them during their caravan journeys. However, over time, they became somewhat complacent, and the number of guards they sent with each caravan decreased.
The Markey Family was heading to Black Mountain Stop to conduct a secret transaction with a mysterious figure. The item being traded was an Undead Method Ball. This ball had a strong Undead energy that could turn ordinary Undead Creatures into Intermediate or Advanced level ones.
Although the Markey Family intended to keep this treasure, the information leaked to the mysterious figure, who made a generous offer to purchase the Undead Method Ball. The Markey Family had no choice but to agree. They selected a secluded location in Black Mountain Stop for the transaction, as they didn't want to draw attention to themselves.
However, unbeknownst to them, the Undead Mercenary Group had discovered this information. The Undead Method Ball was of great importance to the Undead Mercenary Group, and they wanted to obtain it through force.
To ensure that their trip to Black Mountain Stop remained discreet, the Markey Family only sent a small number of guards. They disguised themselves as an ordinary caravan and spread rumors that the location of the transaction had changed to divert attention. They believed this would keep them safe, but they hadn't anticipated being intercepted by the Undead Mercenary Group.
The eight Dark Magicians of the Undead Mercenary Group not only turned themselves into Undead Creatures but also possessed powerful Black Magic skills. They were formidable Dark Magicians, capable of commanding their army of Undead Creatures and launching attacks on the Markey Family caravan. This put immense pressure on the caravan.
The members of the Markey Family who were sent on this mission were experts in their own right. However, they couldn't handle the large number of attackers, especially since they were facing both the Undead Creatures and the sneaky attacks of the Dark Magicians. It was a dire situation.
Among them, Laura stood on a carriage, holding a small wooden box. It wasn't very large, about 20 cubic centimeters, and didn't seem heavy in her hands. Laura was the second successor of the Markey Family, Karen Markey Delphi, and a Magician. She had just reached the 6th level of magic at the age of 17, showing moderate progress. While not exceptionally fast, her speed was decent, although she had no interest in business and preferred to focus on studying and researching magic.
Markey Family, being a famous merchant clan on the continent, valued the business acumen of their successors more than their combat abilities. This put Karen in an awkward position within the family since he wasn't skilled in business. Laura, on the other hand, was a talented individual. At just 17 years old, she was already renowned on the continent for her magical and business abilities. She had been assisting her father with various business matters from a young age and had shown remarkable talent in the field.
Laura was a remarkable young woman, envied by many. However, her outstanding abilities made it difficult for others to be jealous because she was on an entirely different level. Markey Family, unlike other clans, considered the management abilities of their successors to be of utmost importance. The successor who showed the most skill in running the family's businesses would be chosen as the patriarch. This position would then be passed on to their chosen successor by the elders of the clan.
Although Karen was initially the second successor, his lack of business acumen disqualified him from the position of patriarch. Therefore, he could only focus on cultivating the crown prince group. Laura's involvement in the family's business ventures led to increased profits, surpassing those of several other successors.
The Markey Family primarily conducted their business in Purcell Duchy, which is why this transaction fell under Karen's responsibility. However, the actual completion of the transaction required Laura's involvement.
Laura never expected her carefully arranged plans to go awry, resulting in an encounter with the Undead Mercenary Group. She knew that danger was imminent.
Despite being a 6th level Knight, Laura had never found a suitable mount for herself. Moreover, she had never participated in a real fight. Though her 6th level Knight status suggested competence, when it came to actual combat, she lacked the experience possessed by mercenaries who lived by the sword.
Now, surrounded by Undead Creatures, she couldn't escape even if she wanted to. Laura felt a sense of desperation and realized that death was near. She bit her lip forcefully, causing it to bleed.
Just when Laura thought all hope was lost, something unexpected happened. Large numbers of Undead Creatures appeared behind the army besieging them. These Undead Creatures were much stronger than those surrounding them, and their green bodies exuded an aura of power.
Laura's complexion paled, realizing that her situation had taken an unexpected turn. Instead of retreating, it only ignited her fighting spirit. In times of desperation, people either crumbled completely, losing all resistance, or rebelled with indignation, even if it meant sacrificing themselves. Laura belonged to the latter group.
As Laura prepared to fight to the death, she noticed that the newly arrived Undead Creatures began attacking the Undead Creatures surrounding them. This surprised not only Laura but also everyone from the Markey Family. They couldn't immediately comprehend what was happening—a conflict within the Undead Mercenary Group?
Laura, being astute, realized that the newly arrived Undead Creatures were in a completely different league compared to those they were fighting. The besieging Undead Creatures appeared to be made up of nearby villagers and domesticated Magic Beasts armed with farm tools. On the other hand, the newly arrived Undead Creatures were much stronger and exuded a green, toxic aura.
Under the gaze of Laura and the Markey Family members, the green Undead Creatures surged forward, numbering more than a thousand. They managed to eliminate almost half of the Undead Creatures that had besieged them. The besieging Undead Creatures were disappearing at an alarming rate.
Laura's attention was fixed on the green Undead Creatures. She believed that their rescuers would soon reveal themselves. As expected, a colossal Undead Creature appeared on the hill. It wasn't necessarily the largest among the green Undead Creatures, but it carried four figures on its back.
Upon closer inspection, Laura noticed that two of the figures were wearing full body armor, while another wore a Magic Robe. The remaining figure sat in the chest cavity of the Undead Creature, dressed in a black Magic Robe, and there was also a maid sitting next to the Dark Magician.
Laura knew they were allies, but just as she thought the situation had stabilized, several black lights were fired towards the four individuals. Laura's expression changed. She realized that the Undead Mercenary Group had launched an attack. In her concern, she shouted, "Be careful!" But she soon realized that she was too far away for them to hear her.
