“That’s the car he took,” Rowena announced from the back seat as we pulled up to a massive building.
I didn't even wait for the car to come to a full stop before I unbuckled my seatbelt and jumped out. I heard Ezra let out a curse from behind me before my arm was pulled back and I was halted to a stop.
“Dammit, Sprite! Just wait a minute!”
“Dammit, Ezra! Why?” I snapped as I tried to pull my arm from his grasp, but he held it tightly.
“Why?” he grated in a whisper. “Because if you run in there half-cocked, you’re going to get hurt.”
“I don’t care!” I yelled.
“Well, I do!” Ezra shouted back. “So, you’re going to take a deep breath and we’re going to assess the situation BEFORE we go in there. Now. Take a deep breath.”
My shoulders slumped when I saw the resolve in his eyes. He held my gaze until I inhaled deeply and released the air in my lungs.
“Good girl. Can you sense him?”
