“I don’t need you to comfort me.”

"What is it? What's wrong?" Valen sounded a bit panicked when he asked that, but I couldn’t see his face through my tears.


"You can't love me!" I wailed, covering my face with my hands to stop my tears, but the effort was futile.


"What?" He was clearly confused by my reaction.


I felt myself being lifted from the bed and settled into Valen’s lap as he wrapped his arms around me. I twisted around and buried my face in his chest as I continued sobbing.


“Stop calling me that!” I screamed into his chest.


“Shhh. Okay. I’ll stop. But you need to calm down, Zira. You’re going to make yourself sick.” He stroked my head soothingly.


I did feel like I was going to throw up. And now I felt guilty for yelling at him when he was being so understanding.


“Linus, what happened? She’s awake. Why is she crying? Zira can you hear me?” 


The questions pinged from one to another in a familiar voice. 


Meredith. When had Meredith gotten here?
