Tris’ heart stops as she realizes they’ve been caught. She considers grabbing Nick by the hand and running for it, but it would do little good at this point. Instead, she turns around and approaches the purple dragon who cleverly tucked herself into the dark shadows of the trees.
“So, I guess you want us to go back now?” Tris asks Amethyst, stopping a little ways away from the lounging creature.
“Not necessarily,” Amethyst replies, shocking Tris to her core.
What is she talking about? She had been just as adamant as everyone else that it was in Tris’ best interest to be under house arrest.
“What are you saying?” Tris asks, unable to keep hope from rising up in her chest.
“I had some time to think about things, and there must be something special about Ember for you to be so persistent about retrieving her,” the purple dragon admits softly.
