Chapter 27: The True Nature of the Queen

“Are you serious?” a shocked man says from the room. “You would kill your own family for power?”

Nick can’t believe what he’s hearing. There’s no way his mother is talking about them.

“This isn’t my family,” Queen Sandra barks. “My family was banished to the outer lands to suffer and die while Queen Nora and King Draco ran their perfect Kingdom. No, I will see an end to their line and rule over the lands that are rightfully ours.”

“I hope you’re ready to do what’s needed to see this through, Sandra,” the voice replies.

“It’s Queen Sandra,” Nick’s mother barks.

“You are not my Queen, at least not yet,” the man says, sounding annoyed she had corrected him. “What about the prince?”

Nick wants to burst into the room and kill them both. If the man’s refusing to call his mother his Queen, that can only mean one thing. He must be an outsider. How could she? If Tris wasn’t with him right now there’s no telling what the prince might do.
