Chapter 29: Fire Dragon

Ember appears to realize what’s going on and she runs up and puts herself between the two dragons and their death stare.

“Ember, no!” Tris yells, her desire to protect the baby dragon stronger than ever.

The situation is tense and Tris worries something very bad is about to happen. She tries to struggle up to her feet, but she’s too exhausted and sore. She doesn’t feel right, as if something else is draining her energy.

“I’ve got this, little one,” Dom says as Ember arches her back and starts growling at Cane.

The green dragon has come to a stop, seemingly knowing that any act of aggression at this point would cause Dom to attack. Eero takes a few steps toward Tris, drawing Ember’s attention. The little black dragon turns toward them and hurries over to her mama.

Ember’s back is still hunched as she turns to face the Dragon Lord.

“This is what you risked our future for?” Eero snaps, looking down at Ember, enraged.
