Tris cringes at Nick’s very blunt approach with his grandfather. She knows the prince doesn’t want to waste time being told how wrong they were for going back to the mainland without support when his own family is in danger. But being candid isn’t the way to go about it.


“Wait, what?” Draco snaps, obviously taken off guard by Nick’s statement.


It takes him a minute to process everything. Clearly, he had expected the conversation to go in a completely different direction. 


“We overheard Queen Sandra discussing how she wants to kill off your bloodline,” Tris echoes Nick, trying to be a bit more empathetic than the prince had been. 


“Everyone?” he asks, narrowing his eyes at the two.


Tris just nods in reply. She imagines he’s thinking about Granny Nora above worrying about his own son. King Leo has done this to himself, but the Dowager Queen is innocent.
