A New Life 1

Kyle: Me and Sarah are leaving right now. And you are coming with us.

Gio: What are you talking about?

Gio leaned his body to the right to try and see what was behind Kyle, but all he saw was darkness. The only reason that Gio could see Kyle was because of the light that automatically turns on in his room at a certain time. Gio wondered why this light was on right now. It was late at night, and the light only turned on when it was time for him to wake up. And not only that, the light was much dimmer than usual. It was just dim enough that Gio could only see Kyle and nothing else behind them. This whole situation was so unrealistic that Gio questioned if he was still dreaming. This question left Gio's mind when he heard the sound of glass shattering and felt a feeling of cold wash over his body. He squinted his eyes and wrapped his arms around himself.

Kyle: We don't have much time; we need to go now.

Gio: What do you mean? Go where?

Kyle: Gio, this is not a place that you want to be. Trust me, you are much better off coming with us.

Gio's head started to throb as his irritation began to grow.

Gio: Just what is it...?

Kyle: What?

Gio: What is it that you aren't telling me?

Kyle looked at Gio with worry in his eyes.

Kyle: Gio I will explain everything when we are safe.

Gio: We are safe right now, so explain.

Kyle: Listen, you don't understand

Gio: ENOUGH OF YOUR EXCUSES!

Kyle's look changed from one of worry to one of shock in an instant. Through all of Kyle and Gio's time together, Gio has never once yelled. This was a new feeling for Gio as well. His throat hurt, his head was throbbing harder than before, and he felt himself breathing harder for air.

Kyle: This isn't an excuse; you just need to trust me.

It was becoming cold enough that Gio could see both his and Kyle's breath.

Gio: I HAVE BEEN! I HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING YOUR DIRECTIONS EVEN THOUGH I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON. I LIED TO RAYMOND, I STOLE, I STAYED UP LATE AT NIGHT, AND I SKIPPED MEALS ALL TO HELP YOU!

Kyle was surprised. The stealing and lying are things that he asked Gio to do, but he had no idea he was skipping meals or losing sleep.

Kyle: You need to calm down; you will alert the other guards.

Gio: I DON'T CARE; I AM DONE TRUSTING YOU!

Kyle: I will tell you every-

Gio: "Shut up!

Gio takes his hands, covers his ears, and closes his eyes.

Gio: I AM NOT LISTENING!

Kyle: WILL YOU LET ME TALK!?

Gio: LEAVE ME ALONE!

Kyle: STOP YELLING!

Gio: I AM NOT GOING ANYWHERE WITH YOU!

Kyle had a pained expression on his face. He clenched his fists, gritted his teeth, and looked down at the ground. After a moment of silence from Kyle, Gio began to worry that he had hurt Kyle's feelings. He then opened his eyes to look at Kyle. He saw Kyle's pained expression, and it did make him feel extremely guilty. He then continued to look at Kyle, and he finally noticed that Kyle was no longer wearing his necklace, which was instead replaced by bandages.

Gio: Where is your necklace?

Kyle: THEY ARE COLLARS, NOT NECKALCES!

Gio: ...

Kyle: Sorry, I didn't mean-

Gio: Raymond said that we were never supposed to take them off.

Kyle: ...

Gio: ... I will not go with you, Kyle. Despite what you think, I have a life here. Raymond cares about me a lot, and even though you are mean to him, I am sure he cares about you too.

Kyle looks down at the ground, so Gio will not be able to see his face. Kyle looks back up at Gio.

Kyle: I am sorry, Gio, but you are coming whether you want to or not.

Gio then feels something crawling up his leg. He looks down and sees a golden string wrapping around his thigh.

Gio: Huh?

Gio tries to lean his body forward and extend his arm to grab the string, but he finds that he isn't able to move. Gio's eyes widen as he tries everything; he has to move his arms, his legs, and his fingers to no avail.

Gio: K-Kyle I can't move.

Gio moves his eyes to see Kyle looking at him with a sad expression.

Gio: Kyle?

Gio looks back down to see golden strings coming out of his sleeves. He feels the golden string begin to get tighter around his body. He feels it moving throughout his entire body. The golden string completely covers his hands. The golden string begins to come out of the neck of his one-piece. The strings connected to the walls of the destroyed room that they were in and lifted him into the air. The strings then began to cover his face.

Gio: KYLE,PLEASE!

Tears began to well up in Gio's eyes and run down his face.

Gio: PLEASE!

Kyle: Gio.

Gio looked at Kyle with a string covering his face. The string was now fully covering his mouth, making it so Gio could no longer speak.

Kyle: Everything will be fine. Please trust me one more time.

Gio looked at Kyle with fear in his eyes as the strings finally covered his eyes and ears, and then there was nothing but darkness.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kyle closes his eyes and exhales. He opens his eyes and sees a much larger version of Sarah's stuffed toy, Rachel. It towered over Kyle. If Kyle had to guess, this thing was 10 feet tall. Its arms and legs were long. Its arms almost reached the floor, while its torso was about the same size as Kyle's. There was no doubt that Gio was currently residing inside of this creature.

Sarah: Are you sure that was the only way?

Kyle turned around to see Sarah holding the original, stuffed Rachel in her arms. She was also no longer wearing her collar.

Kyle walked over to Sarah, kneeled down, and began to hug her.

Kyle: Yes, I am sure. He would've never left on his own terms.

Sarah: I hope he will forgive us.

Kyle: He will, when he understands everything.

Kyle and Sarah begin to walk to the shattered window to exit the room.

Kyle: Sarah, cover your eyes.

Sarah buries her face into the top of Rachel's head. Kyle and Sarah walk through the shattered window, exiting the room. When they left the room, Kyle noticed that snow was filling the lobby, covering all the bodies of the guards. There were only 10 bodies on the ground.

The giant blue window that was the only thing keeping them from freedom was shattered. When Kyle saw that the window was destroyed, he couldn't help but begin to become emotional. The only barrier that was keeping them from freedom was now gone.

They were free

The snow was so heavy that Kyle wasn't even able to see the moon in the sky.

Kyle: So, it worked?

Sarah: Yes, it did.

Sarah pulls her arm back into her sleeve and then pushes it back through her sleeve with her fist balled up. She opens her fist to show Kyle a white ball the size of her palm. Four silver spider legs then come out of the ball. The ball jumps out of Sarah's hand and crawls up onto Kyle's shoulder.

Kyle: Good. Glad to hear it.

Kyle grabs Sarah's arm and begins to walk towards the window. They get to the window, and the cold air is blowing in their faces as the blizzard continues in front of them. Sarah begins to shiver, but she still keeps her eyes covered. Kyle then looks down from the window.

Kyle: I know it was a far drop, but I can't see the ground through all this snow.

Sarah keeps her head buried in Rachel.

Kyle: Do you have another idea?

Sarah: Umm. We could try to find a safer way down.

Kyle: I don't think that's an option.

Sarah: Oh. Umm. Maybe Rachel could get us down.

Kyle: Can she really do that?

Sarah: I am sure she can.

Kyle: Okay, then call her-

Masculine voice: Oh my. This is what I see on my first day? A couple of prisoners trying to escape. Why was that man promoted if he can't even keep two kids in check?

Kyle turns around, and Sarah keeps her face buried in Rachel. Kyle sees a man with caucasian skin, brown curly hair, and brown eyes wearing a lab coat.

Kyle: You are-

Masculine voice: Yes, I am the assistant professor that was told to come here. You may call me Hank. And what do you think you are doing?

Hank reaches into his lab coat pocket and pulls out a metal lighter. Kyle looks over at Sarah, who still has her face buried into the top of Rachel's head, and then looks back at Hank. Kyle's heart was beating faster than he could think. When he tried to think of a solution to beat or get around Hank without Sarah getting hurt, he always hit a problem. The problem was that he had no idea what Hank was capable of. This was a foe that Kyle had no idea if he could beat or not.

Hank: They said in training that "if a prisoner were to go against the rules, it was best to use force". So that is exactly what I will use.

Sarah: RACHEL!

Hank flicks the lighter, and a flash of red light covers Kyle's vision. A wave of heat hits Kyle's entire body as he goes flying backward out of the window. Kyle knew that whatever Hank just did would've incinerated him and Sarah in seconds. However, it never did, because of the tall golden doll that took the blast for the both of them. Kyle only managed to catch a glimpse of Rachel's back side before he and Sarah went plummeting into a deep darkness where they could see no bottom.
