Unfriendliness

ARWAN

After a whole day's driving, I finally recognise the landscape of our town in the distance. I glance in the rearview mirror, where my sister and Emery are both asleep. Good. They both need to rest.

After what my sister has seen, I wonder how she can close her eyes. The one I'm most worried about, though, is Emery. Because she's definitely spent some time next to that corpse. How long was she alone with that inert body? Minutes? Hours? Fucking days?

She was there for almost three entire days. Three days locked up with no one but a corpse. Or maybe he was only killed later. I hope for her sake that's the case. I hope she spent as little time alone with that body as possible because she won't be able to cope otherwise.

And I won't be able to live with that possibility either.
