Pretending to Be Someone Else

"I don't need the prize if the method would upset you. I would rather not win at all," Henrie declared.

Yohana felt her heart racing. She had envisioned this scenario countless times during her time locked away in the shed. Among the myriad possibilities that had crossed her mind, this one had never made the cut.

She had been so certain that Henrie's reaction would be negative. The best-case scenario she had considered was him choosing to distance himself from her. She had never imagined that Henrie would have known about it before she even spoke the words.

Admittedly, Yohana had harbored suspicions when Henrie had told her about his dreams, but what could someone do with mere dreams? She had underestimated the depth of Henrie's imagination.

"Are you angry with me, Henrie?" Yohana asked.

"For what?"

"For lying to you. For pretending to be someone I'm not."
