A Friend in Need

I sat by Alex's side as he lay on the bed in the school clinic, concern etched on my face. After he fainted he was rushed to the school clinic and thankfully it wasn't something serious. He has been asleep for over thirty minutes now and I had missed a period to watch him.

The bruises on his face were still visible and cuts were now covered with bandaids. One of the bandaids had come loose which caught my attention.

With a gentle touch, moving slowly not to wake him up. I reached out and hovered over him ready to fix the BandAid. Just as I was about to secure it in place, his eyes fluttered open. His voice barely above a whisper he asked, "what are you doing?"

I leaned in closer, our faces just inches apart, and softly replied, "Fixing your bandage." With care, I secured the bandaid in place, making sure it covered the cut on his face. "There." I muttered, my gaze shifting to meet his wearing a smile.
