Not long after I'd made the goblin leather armor and my bastard sword the goblins attacked again and I had to clear out my pits once again and as I was hauling a goblin corpse to join the ever growing wall of bodies I took an arrow to my shoulder so I tossed the goblin and ran ripping the arrow out and packing the wound with a handful of grass. As I was fleeing I was cursing those damned goblins like a sailor on shore leave and loudly as well honestly I'm surprised that I didn't get a second arrow gracing my body but I'd managed to escape and deal with the arrow in my shoulder which was unpleasant to say the least. I retreated into my hut after ensuring my wound was not life threatening I searched around and collected up my medical herbs and began using a crude pot I'd made from a hammered steel sheet to brew up a salve for my wound.
My stove heating nicely the heady smells of herbs brewing and the smell of burning wood filling my hut as I waited for my salve to finish and then I heard a knock which utterly shocked me goblins don't knock. As I realized that I was being visited not by goblins but something polite enough to knock the knock came again so I opened the door and there were 3 elves standing outside being a gracious host I motioned them to enter before returning to my salve creating. As I stood there stirring the pot of salve the elves looked around at my humble dwelling and then I had to push one of the elves away from my bubbling salve concoction and when he seemed a bit upset so I showed him how potent the fumes were by placing a plant carefully into them and we both watched it wither in moments so he took a step back from my salve pot.
The elf now more cautious about disturbing my things barked something at the other elves and they immediately stepped back from my belongings as if they would be killed by them and showed me far more respect so once the salve was done I waved the elves to my table and heated some water for tea. I didn't exactly have tea leaves for a proper tea but I had pine needles wild mint leaves and some of the fruit I'd collected and I ended up with a passable imitation of tea that was probably very healthy for you and it did seem to relax and comfort you when you drank it. I served the elves tea in carved stone mugs I'd recently made myself and I sat down and slowly sipped my tea as the elves talked amongst them selves possibly thinking I'd poisoned the tea until the first elf drank some and suddenly I was getting a look.
The look this elf was giving me was something like how did you make this and then the other elves said something and the more daring elf replied so the others drank some tea and quite quickly I was getting stared at by all 3 elves apparently I made good tea. The tea was something I'd experimented with using various things until I'd come up with the combination I had though 1 cup was all you could drink as 2 and you would be sleeping extremely peacefully the remainder of the day and all through the night handy if you're not sleeping well though it can be incredibly dangerous if you're all lone under constant goblin attack. The elves savored the tea then one made to reach for another serving and I had to stop him or I'd be having a guest overnight at the least and the look of confusion on their faces when I stopped him was a little funny so I pantomimed having a single glass and being comfortable but having 2 and being asleep then gave the elves a circular motion for a day.
My attempt at pantomime was met with confusion so since they were elves I tried to remember what elvish I'd learned honestly at one point I'd been fluent in it but it had been a few years so I was rusty but quickly got my feet underneath as I remembered the language upon hearing it. In elvish the middle earth variety I'd said "Pardon my rusty speech but one glass is comforting two and you will be asleep until morning so take heed not to drink a second cup I've no beds for guests" the elves mouths literally dropped open and they stared at me like I'd grown a second head for a full minute. The elves eventually recovered their wits and what I'd taken to be the leader asked "How Is it you've come to speak high Elvish human?" I replied "in my homeland knowledge is free to all who seek it, I chose it as a subject of study and I was given the title translator of my peers" the elves seemed to understand the apparently high elvish I spoke and they looked at each other before the daring one asked "So this tea what effects does it have beyond what you have described?" I replied "It's first cup will sooth the senses and ease aches relaxing the body after a hard day while the second will put you to sleep in a slumber so deep as to be death yet when you awake you will feel refreshed unlike anything else I've ever tried its quite tasty and effective though potent as well".
The elves listened to what I said before daring elf spoke up and said "I would like to try the second cup of tea if you don't mind overly much kind sir" so I simply said "I will prepare a spot for you then lest your friends intend to carry you home" as I prepared a spot on the floor daring drank a second cup and I had him come lay down before it took effect. Daring elf was soon fast asleep and snoring like he was trying to saw enough logs to cut a forest down the other two watched as I carefully covered daring with a hand woven grass mat and changed the angle of his head to reduce his snoring. Daring elf was utterly passed out and the other two elves were almost staring at daring with jealousy as he slept so deeply as if he had not a care in the world.
The remaining two elves and I enjoyed chuckling at daring elf in his sleep for a short while then I asked them "what quest brings you to my doorway after possibly shooting me with your arrows" after a moment they spoke "You alone have made a serious blow to the local goblin population and we were trying to find the source of this change, the arrow however was because we thought you were a goblin at first, our apologies for the misunderstanding". I accepted their apologies and treated my wound properly, the arrow had not gone in far but certainly enough that it hurt luckily my goblin leather armor I'd made quite thick as I had doubts on its durability but it did work fairly well enough to prevent the arrow from going all the way into my shoulder it mostly just broke the skin and was unpleasant thus the salve.
