"Anaroth, do demons really celebrate a holiday like this?" Veridin adjusted his mask.
"I told you already, we dress up to trick evil spirits that might want to harm us. Are you scared, Veridin?" He grinned, leaning on the table.
Veridin was wearing an ornate mask and a pair of beast horns. An embroidered suit accompanied his mask and a fake beast tail hung from his belt. The tips of his golden hair were dyed red with juice. Under the faint dawn lighting, one could barely tell his ears were also red with embarrassment.
"I don't believe in superstitions. I'm just curious as to why I have to wear… This." He lifted the tail from behind him.
"Didn't you agree that we were going to be beastkin together?"
"I did… But you're…"
Veridin looked him up and down. Anaroth was wearing clothes similar to his, horns and a tail. The main difference was that the outfit was similar to women's hunting attire. Veridin had to turn away to keep his emotions in check.
"What about it? Is there something wrong?" Anaroth smiled coyly.
"You didn't have to wear a corset. Your figure is… Hm." He looked away again.
"No, do tell me. What about my figure?" Anaroth stepped closer. It was fun for him to see Veridin so flustered.
Veridin gently pushed him away. "It's nothing. If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were an evil spirit come to tempt me."
"What if I am?"
"Then I'd have to punish you for trying. Only my dear blood moon is allowed to tempt me."
Anaroth flinched, blood rushing to his cheeks. "Don't say something so embarrassing so suddenly!"
"I was simply returning the favor. Shall we go now?"
Veridin held his hand out. With a smile, Anaroth took it. Standing beside him, Anaroth could smell the faint scent of strawberries coming from him. He chuckled softly as he glanced at Veridin's red streaked hair. In an instant, the two were standing outside.
Throughout the night, the two toured the streets of the demon capital together. Accompanied by Raven and Yulis, they passed by street vendors selling sweets, masks, oddities, and running games. It wasn't the first time they had toured the capital together, and it wouldn't be the last. But tonight was special, the first of many holidays they would spend together.
Amber light glittered off of Anaroth's hair when he moved it out of his face. His red eyes met Veridin's with a serene and joyous expression.
"Happy Halloween Veridin."
Though the night was bustling and bright and cold wind swept through the town, warmth and quiet enveloped the two as if they were the only ones there. Red clashed against violet, and gold melded with silver. To them, there was nothing greater than being by each other's side.
"Happy Halloween."
