A Nightmare

A gasp escaped Ember's throat despite herself but a single warning glance from her mother was enough to make her keep her composure for the rest of the conversation.

"Hyran says it's urgent?" Deneria mused. "Still, the matter can't be so grave. Why ask for her at such an ungodly hour. Surely it can wait till dawn."

The servant shook his head lightly. "I'm afraid it can't, Your Majesty." He countered. "His Majesty has made himself clear through Lord Hyran."

Deneria frowned before she let out a resigned sigh. "Very well," she relented. "Where is the Emperor now?"

"In the audience chamber, Your Majesty."

The Empress nodded. "You may leave." She said, "The Princess will be there shortly."

The servant bowed before he exited the garden and only after he was out of sight did Ember begin to panic.

"Do you–do you think Father has found out about what I've done, Mother?" She asked warily.
