One Way or Another

Liam

I raced after Amelie in the brightly lit street, my heart pounding in my chest, each breath a desperate plea for her to stop. Her footsteps echoed ahead, the sound of her sobs cutting through the night. I had betrayed her, shattered her trust, and now, I needed to make things right.

"Wait!" I gasped, my voice strained, choked with regret. "Please, just listen!"

Amelie glanced over her shoulder, her tear-soaked eyes locking onto mine for a fleeting moment. Her face was a screen of pain, a reflection of the heartache I had caused.

But she didn't stop, instead her steps quickened, as if hearing my voice had gotten her even more aggravated.

"It was a mistake!" I screamed out before stumbling forward. I managed to regain myself before I could reach the ground, but now it was too late. The distance between us was now enough for Amelie to board a taxi and escape before I could reach for her.
