"Well, it depends on your definition of alive," Rain said. "I sealed him away to find a better way to use his skills and knowledge. Even until now, he didn't say anything about how Joanis obtained all that knowledge, and I can't force him to do that since I have another troublesome guest."

Rain's explanations had left his companions more confused and uncertain than before. The complexity and implications of his strategies, among other things, seemed to increase the confusion rather than offer clarity.
