After the rain stopped, William returned to the tent. He had spent an hour or two talking to the adventurers. In his talk, he had learned many new things. He had learned many things about this world.
As the moonlight gently filtered through the tent's fabric, casting a soft glow, William lay there with a storm of thoughts swirling in his mind. He couldn't shake off the worries and uncertainties that plagued him, even in the calmness of the night.
Silently, he reached out and gently brushed a strand of hair away from Aimee's face. She stirred slightly in her sleep, nestling closer to Isabella. In that moment, his heart filled with a mixture of love and apprehension. Aimee was his everything, the sole remaining family member in this unfamiliar world. The weight of responsibility for her safety bore down heavily on his shoulders.
Deep down, William carried a fear that threatened to consume him. It was a fear of losing Aimee, of failing to protect her from the perils that lurked within this fantastical realm. The thought of losing her, the thought of her being harmed, shattered his resolve and threatened to break him entirely.
He couldn't help but wonder if he had made a hasty decision in leaving the capital. In the bustling city, surrounded by the safety and security of the Sun goddess's influence, perhaps they would have been shielded from the dangers that now loomed over their journey. Doubt gnawed at him, questioning his choices and filling him with regret.
His mind raced with what-ifs and uncertainties. What if they encountered powerful level 3 beasts that could easily overpower them? What if the Night Empire held even greater dangers than their current surroundings? What if the information he had gathered about Emberfall City and the Night Empire proved to be misleading?
Yet, amidst his doubts, he couldn't deny the gratitude he felt towards Goddess Nyx. She had bestowed upon him the blessing that unlocked his class and skills, granting him a newfound strength and power. He was no longer an ordinary man in this extraordinary world. He possessed the means to protect Aimee, to stand as a guardian against the encroaching darkness.
But as he thought of Goddess Nyx, a sense of concern washed over him. She had been his benefactor, the one who had granted him this newfound power. The image of her fading away, bound by mysterious chains, haunted his thoughts. He yearned to free her, to repay her kindness, and to unveil the secrets that kept her captive.
A resolute determination grew within him, intertwining with his worries and fears. He made a silent promise to himself and to Goddess Nyx. He would find a way to free her, to unravel the chains that held her in bondage. No matter the obstacles that lay ahead, he would strive to be the light in the darkness, to protect not only Aimee but also those who had shown him compassion in this unknown world.
With a mixture of determination and uncertainty, William closed his eyes, hoping that sleep would bring respite to his restless mind. The road ahead was uncertain, but he was resolved to face the challenges head-on, guided by the love for his daughter and the debt of gratitude he owed to the mysterious Goddess of Night.

Next morning,
Isabella's eyes fluttered open, her senses attuned to her surroundings. Being surrounded by humans, she had grown accustomed to being cautious, always alert to the slightest noise or movement. Last night, she had woken up multiple times, her instincts guiding her to stay vigilant. The first time, she had noticed William's absence, assuming he had stepped out momentarily. Satisfied, she drifted back to sleep. The second time, her gaze fell upon William's peaceful slumber as he returned to the tent. And the third time, the distant howling of a wolf pack had jolted her from her rest.
Fortunately, the seasoned adventurers had swiftly dealt with the potential threat, ensuring the safety of the camp. Most of the other campers had remained blissfully unaware of the danger that had loomed. They slept on, undisturbed and untroubled.
"Morning already?" The Demon Empress yawned and rubbed her sleepy eyes as she sat up, casting a tender gaze upon Aimee. A warm smile graced her lips as she beheld the sight before her.
Aimee's tiny feet playfully rested on William's face, causing a faint crease of annoyance to appear on his features. Yet, he made no move to disturb her, allowing her to sleep undisturbed. Meanwhile, Aimee's head nestled gently on Isabella's stomach, her little form snuggled in peaceful slumber.
"This child..." Isabella's smile grew, a mix of affection and amusement as she gently guided Aimee's head back onto the pillow. With care, she covered the little girl with a blanket, using it to shield her from the cool morning air. Despite sharing the same tent with William, there was a subtle distance maintained between them, a respect for boundaries and the need for privacy.
Isabella couldn't help but acknowledge that this particular human was unlike any she had encountered before. He treated her with a kindness that was alien to her previous experiences. Instead of treating her as a lowly slave, he regarded her as a companion on their journey. Despite having only one tent, he willingly invited her to share their sleeping space while maintaining a respectful distance. It was as if he saw her as an equal, as a fellow traveler rather than a mere servant. He shared his meals with her, offering her his own provisions without hesitation. Not once did he disrespect or mistreat her, going so far as to offer his assistance with chores, eager to lend a helping hand while she cared for his daughter. It was clear to Isabella that this man possessed a truly kind heart.
The unfairness of it all stirred a fierce anger within Isabella, causing her fists to clench tightly. She bit down on her lip, the pressure almost drawing blood, as she voiced her frustration. Her words carried an angry tone, laced with confusion. "It's not right. I should despise you as a Hero, yet I find it impossible to do so. Why are you so kind to me?"
Conflicting emotions surged within Isabella, torn between the ingrained hatred she held toward humanity and the growing appreciation she felt for this particular human. She was well aware that she couldn't simply let go of her deep-seated animosity, considering all that her race had suffered at the hands of humans. And yet, when it came to this man, this Hero from another world, she found herself caught in a tumultuous internal struggle. There was an undeniable connection between him and her beloved sister, and despite his heroic origins, his unwavering kindness and care towards her had sparked a flicker of conflicting feelings deep within her heart.
Isabella, after freshening up and changing into clean clothes, gently woke Aimee from her slumber. "Aimee, my dear, it's morning," she softly spoke, urging her to awaken. Aimee rubbed her sleepy eyes and sat up, a warm smile spreading across her face.
"Good morning, Aimee," Isabella greeted her niece, returning the smile. As Aimee embraced her in a hug, Isabella's heart swelled with love and concern. She couldn't help but ponder what could be preventing Aimee from speaking anything beyond "Mommy" and "Mom."
Inquisitively, Isabella wondered if something had happened to her young niece, something that had left her unable to utter any other words. At Aimee's age, children should be starting to form sentences and express themselves more fully. Determined to find answers, Isabella decided to discuss this matter with William, seeking his insights and understanding.
"Aimee, could you please wake up your Daddy?" Isabella requested, watching as Aimee nodded cutely and made her way toward William. With innocent determination, she attempted to rouse him by lightly slapping his forehead with her tiny hand. In his sleep, William seemed bothered by the touch, but he remained blissfully unaware.
Noticing this, Isabella promptly intervened. "Aimee, my love, you must be gentler. This is your Papa, and we mustn't hurt him, alright?" She explained, her voice conveying both love and firmness. While secretly amused by the sight of William being playfully slapped, Isabella knew it was her responsibility as Aimee's caretaker and aunt to guide her with good behavior and habits.
Aimee then redirected her efforts toward William, understanding the need for a different approach. Under Isabella's watchful gaze, she gently shook his head until he was compelled to open his eyes. As William awakened, his gaze met Isabella's, and she rewarded Aimee with an affectionate smile. Pulling her niece closer, Isabella kissed her forehead and affectionately patted her head, praising her efforts. "Well done, my dear. You did a great job."
As William washed his face and changed into fresh clothes, he observed Isabella diligently preparing breakfast. Despite her status as the Demon Empress, she gracefully took on the role of the cook, a skill passed down to her by her late mother. Little Aimee sat patiently on a wooden trunk, her eyes fixed on Isabella's every move as she prepared the meal. The aroma of the cooking food filled the air, signaling the awakening of the other adventurers and campers who began emerging from their tents.
Soon, William returned and joined Isabella and Aimee for breakfast. The warm meal nourished them, energizing them for the day ahead. Isabella, mindful of their journey, also took the initiative to prepare lunch in advance, ensuring they could eat while on the move without the need to stop for a midday meal.
After breakfast, the group began packing up their belongings, preparing to continue their journey. William, seeing Isabella as more than just a slave but a caring guardian to his daughter, assisted her in the preparations. The notion of assigning tasks based on social standing or hierarchy didn't hold importance to him; he valued her presence and the care she provided to Aimee above all else.
As they resumed their journey, a sense of tranquility settled over the group, broken only by the sound of their footsteps and the occasional exchange of words. William, with his newfound powers and formidable stats, effortlessly carried Aimee in his arms, feeling no discomfort or strain. They walked steadily until the sun began its descent, marking the time for a brief pause and the consumption of their packed lunch.
With the afternoon sun casting a warm glow upon them, the group continued their journey, their pace steady and determined. The days seamlessly merged into weeks, with the passage of time becoming a blur. Throughout these weeks, they encountered no major threats or attacks, thanks to the vigilance and skill of the adept adventurers within their midst. Occasionally, the cover of darkness brought forth packs of wolves and other creatures, but the group proved more than capable of fending them off.
During this time, William's presence and amiable nature made him well-known among the group. He invested time in engaging with other adventurers and fellow travelers, sharing stories and gaining valuable insights about the world they traversed. Isabella, known for her beauty and enigmatic demeanor, maintained her distance from the others, interacting primarily with Aimee and William. Her silent presence and occasional smile conveyed a sense of mystery and allure.
Each night, as the pretense of bathing drew William into the embrace of the forest, he devoted an hour to honing his skills and exploring his newfound powers. With each passing day, his proficiency grew, enabling him to wield his abilities with greater precision and control. The nights became a sanctuary for him to unlock the full potential of his powers, embracing the darkness as his ally and source of strength.
