"My Lord, we've sent a bird to our closest neighbor city to ask for backup troops. It should take about five hours for help to get here," said Gilbert, the secretary, trying to sound hopeful. It would have taken even longer if there hadn't been a river connecting Northpine City to the next nearest city, speeding up the journey a bit.
"Five hours? By then, all of Northpine City could be destroyed," replied Lord Theodore, the City Lord of Northpine City, his voice filled with worry and stress.
Gilbert sensed the heavy mood and did his best to comfort his worried leader. "Lord Theodore, we're doing all we can. Our soldiers are fighting bravely, and the citizens are taking shelter. We've survived difficult times before; we'll get through this."
Lord Theodore sighed, his face showing the weight of his responsibility. "I hope you're right, Gilbert. So many lives depend on us. I can't bear to think of what will happen if we fail."
