Chapter 10: Blurred Judgement

*MIRA’S POV*

My foiled plan of escape had played out a whole lot better in my head. I hadn’t accounted for the fact that the two superhero looking guys holding me hostage, also happened to have superhero strength. But after they carried me out to the van against my will a second time, they were decidedly not superheroes. More like super *ssholes.

Duke greeted us happily as the van’s door swung open, completely unaware of what had just transpired.

At least I’d gone down swinging. I’d even drawn blood when Trae came for me. I’d dug my fingernails deeply into his forearm when he took the spade from me.

I expected him to respond violently, but he didn’t.

“Stop! I don’t want to hurt you, Mira. But if you keep provoking me I will have no choice,” he growled, his eyes glazing over with blind anger. Despite the adrenaline from my flight or fight response, his voice sounded sincere, and those blazing eyes froze me in place.
