Chapter 11: Leaving Home

Lilia POV

Neat piles of robes and clothing as well as cosmetics, lotions, and ointments lay on her bed next to her open valise. Someone told Ravyn, who had bought it for Lilia, that the green leather valise was dragonhide, but Lilia doubted that. Even as well as their shop did, they couldn’t afford dragonhide goods.

“I don’t need all that,” she said to Anneliese.

“You don’t know what you’ll need.” Anneliese added some feminine frilly undergarments. They looked like spiderwebs.

“The shifters …” Lilia lowered her voice. “They run around naked some of the time.”

“Well, you won’t be naked on the journey. Whether or not you’ll shed your clothes in their territory is up to you ... although I’d be a little self-conscious being the only one wearing a robe if everyone else is naked.” Anneliese rearranged the piles. “Nudity is very natural.” She flashed Lilia a playful grin. “Not everyone agrees.”

“Mother agrees … she didn’t even say a word.”
