Lilia POV
Dane was taking way too long to come back.
Twenty minutes went by from the time he left. Then thirty. She understood that Dane wasn’t dealing with ordinary thieves.
She stood on the hill with Dane’s brothers prowling around the slope that led downward to a meadow filled with flowers. Beyond the meadow on the horizon, she could see a line of bilberry bushes, and she could smell the ripening berries. Perfectly ordinary bushes.
Ordinary, hah! Not to a witch who could detect concealed shifters in those bushes. Guardians of the Evenhide border.
She hadn’t sensed the thieves ambushing them, but she could feel the Evenhide shifters. Maybe the anti-magic shield interfered with her powers.
Dane’s brothers returned and shifted back from their gorgeous wolf forms to their equally gorgeous human shapes. “Those are Evenhide lands just beyond the bushes,” Kyon said, indicating the boundary with a flourish of his hand.
