Chapter 24: Tulaska

Dane POV

Dane moved the sacred drum from Tulaska’s hearth rug so he could sit by the fire. Otherwise, he’d have no place to sit at all. Tulaska Volkov had never been known for her neat housekeeping. He wondered how a wolf could shift and run around in such a cluttered room.

Tulaska bustled around, getting two small cups of steaming herbal tea. She wore a swirling cloak patterned with the moon and stars. She walked with grace considering her many decades of life, sat across from him in front of the hearth, and handed him the cup. “Drink.”

He sipped the bitterroot tea, which overpowered his senses.

“Now tell me about the woman,” she said.

The heat in his face was either from the tea or from embarrassment. “I’m very confused about her.”

“No, you aren’t,” she said. “But finish your tea. That will help.”
