Chapter 221: Annihilation of a Nation Every Century

"The Necromancer Council!" Muria smacked his lips upon hearing these words. He had heard of this organization back when he was in the Titan Islands.

For an organization whose name was known even to a half-blood titan living in the secluded islands overseas, it's evident that the Necromancer Council had a notorious reputation in Elasia.

This organization, every hundred years, selects a human kingdom or several duchies for annihilation.

Their method of destruction is straightforward and brutal. They deploy twice the number of legendary undead and liches compared to the target nation's legendary beings, forcibly suppressing or exiling them.

Then, each of these legendary undead and liches heads to every city and larger town within the target nation and casts a ninth-circle necromancy spell: Plague of Undeath.

This spell awakens all the buried corpses and skeletons beneath the cities and their surroundings, allowing them to rise from the earth and walk again, meanwhile venting the jealousy and hatred of the dead towards the living.

The target nation becomes a land of the dead, a living hell for the living.

A ninth-circle spell, which some exceptionally talented soul-tier mages can cast, means that similarly talented soul-tier necromancers can unleash the infamous Plague of Undeath, a ninth-circle necromancy spell.

However, the Plague of Undeath cast by soul-tier mages pales in comparison to that cast by legendary liches. Their casting of this ninth-circle necromancy spell is not just an attack spell but a true catastrophe.

...

"The Necromancer Council! How is that possible?" Golden Dragon Luther's face turned slightly stunned.

"Apart from the Necromancer Council, can you name another force capable of making a kingdom with seven legends abandon their capital and flee in panic in less than two days?"

Silent, Golden Dragon Luther was initially confused about the force attacking the Bavarian Kingdom.

However, upon witnessing the appearance of more than a dozen legendary undead besieging the seven legends of the Bavarian Kingdom, as a knowledgeable golden dragon, Luther was more than 70% certain they were from the Necromancer Council.

Later, after two legends died in battle, one legend was exiled, and the remaining legends fled with the Bavarian Kingdom's high officials due to the legendary liches' spatial blockade, they could only flee to Bucharest, the largest religious city in the Bavarian Kingdom, by flying.

During their flight, Golden Dragon Luther witnessed those pursuing legendary undead pausing when passing some smaller cities to cast a spell that enveloped the entire city, the Plague of Undeath.

He still cannot forget the sight of white skeletal arms stretching out from the soil, reaching towards the sky—those were the undead awakened by the Plague of Undeath.

The indiscriminate use of forbidden necromancy spells to attack every human city was a cruel, inhumane act of madness that no other force dared to commit, aside from the Necromancer Council.

He simply did not want to admit that the attackers of the Bavarian Kingdom were indeed the Necromancer Council, always holding onto a sliver of hope. But Golden Dragon Lady Caslana utterly crushed his wishful thinking.

"Did you come here seeking help?"

"...Yes." After a moment of silence, Golden Dragon Luther nodded in admission. "I came to seek dragons to rescue the Bavarian Kingdom."

"It's impossible. Once the Necromancer Council has made its move, the doom of your Bavarian Kingdom is a foregone conclusion, and not even the incarnation of the Lord of Light could change that."

"The Necromancer Council's centennial nation-destroying campaign has almost never failed. I remember they once annihilated a god's religious nation, nearly plunging that deity into eternal slumber."

"Unless you can find a Dragon King to intervene, but our kings would hardly concern themselves with the fall of a mere human kingdom."

"According to the rules of the Necromancer Council, with the Bavarian Kingdom having seven legends, they would deploy at least fourteen... No, that's incorrect. Considering the Dawn Church also has two Coffin Archbishops stationed in Bucharest, they would send at least eighteen legendary undead, with at least half being undying liches."

"Below the legendary, all are ants. Our dragons here are mostly in their youth, without a single ancient dragon among us. Trying to rescue the humans of the Bavarian Kingdom is tantamount to marching to our deaths."

"There's no need to confront those legendary undead and liches." Golden Dragon Luther's eyes showed a trace of sorrow. "Since chosen by the Necromancer Council, the fall of the Bavarian Kingdom is inevitable. I'm now pleading for you to save those humans caught in the Plague of Undeath. They are innocent."

Hearing Golden Dragon Luther's plea, many gold and silver dragons showed hesitation, while others, especially the gem dragons, remained indifferent, unmoved by Luther's request.

"The Bavarian Kingdom now faces nearly twenty legendary undead and liches. Venturing into such a hopeless situation to rescue insignificant humans is utterly absurd," a yellow jade dragon scoffed with a sneer, his gaze cold.

"Humans are not insignificant," Golden Dragon Luther earnestly retorted the mocking yellow jade dragon. "Among them are vile beings worse than hell's demons, but also saints of such virtue that even the greatest deities would praise."

"Saints among humans? The total number of saints recorded in history doesn't even surpass the number of deities in the heavens. Humans are a pitiful and laughable race, hardly worth saving."

...

"Enough! We're not here to debate whether humans are worth saving," Golden Dragon Lady Caslana's staff vibrated slightly as she interrupted the debate between Golden Dragon Luther and a few gem dragons.

"Luther's question was, who is willing to help save the humans of the Bavarian Kingdom? Those unwilling need not speak."

Caslana's gaze swept over the indifferent gem dragons without comment. Aside from the gold and silver dragons, most dragons share a similar attitude towards humans—insignificant beings hardly different from ants, with red dragons even taking joy in destroying human cities.

"The number of legendary undead is too great, especially those capable of blocking space. Without ancient dragons, the risk of rescuing the humans of the Bavarian Kingdom is too high."

A scholarly dressed golden dragon, adjusting his crystal glasses, shook his head regretfully, "The risk is too great."
