Guzar Samar enjoyed his life. He was rich and his money attracted many people, who were ready to lick his feet if it helped them to parasite on his wealth. This much attention made him feel special, but it wasn't enough. 

Even though his wife was half-dead, she was still a daughter of nobility, while Guzar will forever be someone from the working class. While the Southern Islands valued one's ability to make money, the federation was made of small, scattered tribes on the sea. The civilization and progress came from the continent, and there, the aristocratic rank mattered the most.

This disparity in their status haunted his ego down and he was determined to get a noble status for his bloodline. For this, a daughter was not a valuable pawn to him, as once she is married off, she won't be the one continuing his heritage.
