A Malicious Rumor

Bei Sangyun wiped away the tears that were about to come out. She was not a crybaby. But after meeting Fei Chuan, she cried secretly many times. She even cried in front of him twice.

This was really shameful and terrible.

"Anyway, we are not even friends. What will happen to me in the future is my business." Bei Sangyun wanted to hide and wanted to run away from here.

How could she cry in front of him again? So embarrassing.

Fei Chuan held her arm, "Are you really giving up? Are you really going to be a coward?"

Bei Sangyun pulled her arm away from him, "I am giving up! So don't come here anymore!" She just wanted to hide!

Bei Sangyun pulled her arms away from Fei Chuan unexpectedly and the latter suddenly lost his support. He had a weak constitution to begin with and standing here for too long had already weakened his legs.

When Bei Sangyun pulled away with force, he stumbled out of balance and fell down to the ground.

"Young Master!" The teenagers helped Fei Chuan stand up.

Bei Sangyun who was about to run looked back worriedly. But she did not approach them.

Fei Chuan's beige jacket was now full of mud. His face was pale. But he ignored the mud on his body and looked back at Bei Sangyun.

His gaze was full of displeasure and disappointment. "I really thought you were better than this." He then slowly limped away.

The teenagers glared at Bei Sangyun before assisting the little boy away from this place.

Bei Sangyun stood there, frozen. Suddenly a bucket of tears fell down from her eyes.

She sobbed and crouched down.

She did not even understand why she was crying.

.....

For the next few days, Bei Sangyun had no mood to accompany her grandma to the market. She just stayed in the yard and sorrowfully conversed with the little chicks.

After being emotional that day, she had been thinking about Fei Chuan's words.

Although Fei Chuan was really annoying, he said the truth.

Education was very important. The books she had read emphasized how important education was. Her grandma had also taught her multiple times that the best way for a person to succeed was to become educated.

After mulling it for days, Bei Sangyun recovered from sadness and made a decision.

She had to visit the school at least one more time and try not to think about those things. Perhaps, it was all on her head.

Maybe it's not as worst as she thinks. If her classmates called her out for being poor, so what?

It's not as if she committed a crime.

Bei Sangyun took a deep breath and made an announcement with her grandma.

"Grandma, I'll be going to school tomorrow."

Grandma Bei's eyes lit up. But then her eyes dimmed. "Tomorrow? Does it have to be tomorrow?"

Bei Sangyun: ?

She thought her grandma would be happy. She did not expect this reaction.

Grandma Bei suddenly slapped her forehead, "Why does it matter? As long as you want to go to school. You can go. Grandma will send you to school tomorrow."

Her grandchild painstakingly gathered enough courage to go back to school. If they delayed it, her grandchild might lose courage again.

So the next day, Grandma Bei and Bei Sangyun left early.

However, when they passed the other villagers, the people who were always enthusiastic in greeting Bei Sangyun were a bit weird.

"Mrs. Jang, good morning!" Bei Sangyun greeted her with a smile. She was more lively than usual since she had not come out of their hut for two days.

Mrs. Jang who always smiled at Bei Sangyun and praised her for being a lively sensible child, turned her head away. "I have to sweep the yard!" Then she ran away.

Bei Sangyun: ?

"Mister Lin, are you going to the field today?"

Mister Lin who always smiled sheepishly and conversed with her sometimes, was stunned. Then he stammered, "I-I am going to the field indeed...Goodbye!" He then hurried back.

Bei Sangyun: ?

Bei Sangyun saw two more adults who had a good relationship with her. But all of them either ignored her or just nodded with a fake smile before turning away.

Bei Sangyun was a sensitive child. She was smart to catch on that there was something going on. She lowered her head dejectedly.

She did not know what happened or why they were acting strange. But she felt that they were all avoiding her.

Why?

Suddenly, she heard the sound of some aunties gossiping.

"I thought Bei Sangyun is a sensible child. I did not expect she would do such a thing."

"She is ungrateful. The young master let her be his playmate and come to his house every day to read and eat. But she did such a thing. Tsk. She is smart and smiles every day. Who would have thought her heart is dark?"

"I say, that Bei Sangyun is indeed her grandma's grandchild. Both were shrewd and ungrateful. People are nice to her because she is an orphan. That must got to her head and she harmed other people. Did she think that because she is pitiful, she can do what she wants?"

Bei Sangyun's step paused. Her eyes went wide.

Grandma Bei's face was dark.

She ran to the gossiping aunt and yelled, "You gossiping hens! You chirp nonsense so early in the morning. Why don't you face me and said it to my face directly? My Bei Sangyun is smart, kind and won't do such a thing! If I heard you gossip about my granddaughter one more time, I will let you see why no one dared to offend me in this village!"

The aunties were shocked. Grandma Bei was always stubborn with a difficult attitude. But she never got angry like this. The aunts stood up and moved away.

"Just so you know we are not afraid of you. We just don't want to get involved with a difficult person like you!"

Then they hurried back to their homes.
