Chapter 138: Purring Kitten

The back of a cat's neck, often referred to as the "nape of fate," is like grabbing the throat of destiny; when this area is caught, the cat seems to submit to fate. This is actually a reflex ingrained in cats.

It is said that when kittens are young, mother cats would quickly move them by carrying them by the back of their neck to avoid any danger. To prevent the kittens from moving around and potentially hindering the mother, they would warn the kittens not to move. Over time, this reflex developed.

It's said that this reflex exists in all felines, including big cats like tigers and lions.

Of course, dear readers, if you attempt this and end up incomplete, the author will not be held responsible.

Qi Han just tried it out. Even if cats in the Douluo Continent don't have this reflex, he, with his level of Spirit power, had no problem dealing with a kitten that wasn't even ten years old.

But the result of his attempt still pleased him greatly.

Indeed, a Spirit beast cat is still a cat.

He lifted the kitten in front of him, allowing their eyes to meet. The kitten's expression appeared both pitiful and adorable, its timid appearance sending a shiver down Qi Han's spine.

Indeed, kittens and tough guys are a perfect match.

The auction house hadn't mistreated the kitten. At least, it didn't appear malnourished or injured. Perhaps due to its low spirits, its fur lacked some luster.

After some contemplation, Qi Han gently placed the kitten on the table.

The kitten was smart. Seeing that Qi Han had no intention of harming it, it ceased its attempts to attack and sat on the table, looking at Qi Han with a mixture of fear and curiosity.

Qi Han reached into his pocket and retrieved a small porcelain bottle from the system space. He poured out a tiny pill the size of a fingertip onto his palm and presented it to the kitten.

"Meow?"

The kitten instinctively shrank back, but soon realized that Qi Han seemed to want it to eat the pill in his hand.

Approaching cautiously, the kitten's nose twitched, and soon its eyes lit up.

The small pill emitted a faint fragrance, stirring the instincts within the kitten, telling it that consuming this would be beneficial for its body.

The young kitten had yet to develop much wariness towards humans. It quickly picked up the pill, chewed on it a couple of times, and swallowed it down. Sensing Qi Han's goodwill, before leaving his palm, it even rubbed against his hand a couple of times.

The adorable sight melted Qi Han's heart.

The pill Qi Han fed the kitten was something he had bought from the Tang Sect previously and hadn't used up during his time in the Kalei Forest. It was called Nourishing Essence Pill, which wasn't particularly potent. It served to mildly replenish Spirit power and had some effect in consolidating one's foundation. Its main feature was its gentle nature; even ordinary people could consume it safely.

Originally, Qi Han had intended to feed the kitten with something more suitable for cats, but after some thought, he realized he didn't have anything on him. Thus, he resorted to the Nourishing Essence Pill to help it recover.

After ingesting the pill, the effects were evident. The kitten's eyes became brighter, and its fur gained some luster.

With a taste of the benefits, the kitten voluntarily approached Qi Han's hand and licked it.

"Want more?" Qi Han's eyes held a hint of amusement as he poured out another Nourishing Essence Pill and offered it to the kitten.

Each Nourishing Essence Pill cost 1 Gold Coin, but at this moment, Qi Han didn't hesitate to offer more.

After consuming 3 pills, the kitten stopped licking Qi Han's hand and began grooming its fur.

Qi Han tentatively reached out and stroked the kitten's back. It didn't resist at all; instead, it leaned into his touch.

Following that, Qi Han extended his other hand and lifted the kitten into his arms.

Lifted off the ground, the kitten uttered a few uneasy meows but soon settled into Qi Han's warm embrace. It adjusted itself to find the most comfortable position and quieted down.

Qi Han then turned to the attendant beside him. "Hello, please take me to the venue of the large auction now."

Although Qi Han was enjoying petting the cat, he hadn't forgotten his purpose for coming.

"System, can I get reimbursed for buying the cat?"

[Reimbursement is possible.]

"Thank you very much."

Qi Han grinned and followed the attendant with the cat along a winding path into the venue of the large auction.

The venue of the large auction was much larger than the auxiliary venue of the previous warm-up auction, with an area ten times larger than that of the auxiliary venue and divided into two floors.

The first floor consisted of seats for ordinary guests, arranged in rows akin to attending a concert, albeit more spacious and with exquisite leather chairs even for ordinary guests.

The second floor comprised VIP boxes, which were quieter and each had dedicated attendants providing service. The auction house also provided drinks and snacks.

Qi Han was just there to join in the excitement, so he didn't spend more money to sit in a VIP box on the second floor. After obtaining a new bid number, he casually chose a seat with a good view and waited for the large auction to officially begin, all the while enthusiastically petting the cat.

Qi Han's technique for petting cats had been honed in his past life. He adjusted the posture of the kitten and then began to stroke it with both hands.

Since the kitten and he weren't very familiar yet, Qi Han didn't immediately touch sensitive areas like its belly and hindquarters. Instead, he lightly scratched the kitten's chin and the top of its head, occasionally massaging its neck with his hands. These areas were rich in the kitten's scent glands but were difficult for it to reach itself. When Qi Han scratched it there, the kitten immediately closed its eyes contentedly and made faint "purring" sounds.

When this kitten was discovered, it had just been born and was quickly sold to the Starlight Auction House. Although it had been fed milk and food, and hadn't experienced hunger, it had never felt the warmth and comfort of a mother cat's affectionate touch. For the first time, it felt a sense of warmth and comfort, and for a moment, it was lost in thought.

It gently moved its nose, trying to firmly remember Qi Han's scent.

So comfortable, I'll look for him next time when I feel itchy!

As Qi Han continued to pet the cat, he pondered.

Cats in this world probably don't need vaccinations, but they still need to be checked for parasites like fleas. After the auction ends, I'll give it a bath and ask the system for some deworming medicine.

Hmm, did I forget something?

Oh, right, the cat doesn't have a name yet!

What's a good name to give it?

As he contemplated, he subconsciously continued to pet the cat. The kitten, enjoying the sensation, shook its head slightly, guiding Qi Han's hand to the spot it wanted to be scratched, and once again made a faint "purring" sound.

Got it!

Qi Han's eyes lit up. "From now on, your name will be Pururu, okay?"

"Meow!"

The kitten joyfully responded to Qi Han's call.
