Chapter 9: battle

As the blue ashes fell it revealed the charred room eaten by the flames I made. An evil laugh echoed the burnt halls as mother Sagorian stood proudly holding her victim she had caught. Her skin bubbled and burned from the heat around her. Her dress tattered and burnt, her curls let loose in a thick bush coming to her shoulders. She stood bearing Bellivia by the back of her neck, her long fingers curled around Bellivia's throat. Bellivia struggled and wrapped her hands around the long needles keeping her from freedom. A screechy voice began to echo "little Lyra, wants to save everyone. She forgets that I will never let her leave here. Is our tiny hero looking for this?" as she asked she threw Bellivia to the side, Bellivia hit the ground and slid into the wall. Her body crumpled into a ball as she lay still.

Elijah began to step forward his face stern, I put out my arm to stop him and he looked to me his eyes of anger threatened. I stepped forward; mother Sagorian's smile only growing wider and more sly. "How sweet, our half pint hero wants to save him. You're not a hero girl; you're stuck in your own imaginary world. You will never be a hero" her words hitting me deep. I looked to the ground; I was no hero and never deserved the title. I began to laugh as I looked up to her. "I am my mother's papillon, the one who can set fire to the world in only seconds. If you think im not leaving you are wrong." I screamed out to her. Her reply was an evil laugh growing deeper. I stood looking into her eyes. I reached my hand to the floor and began to smile wider. Anger and hatred carved into me with its knife. Embers and ashes began to flow around the room, they started floating to me. They began to patch themselves in my hand.

As more and more embers and ashes started to form a vibrant blue sword reaching down to the floor. I stood with a sword of ash and embers in my hand; I lifted it to mother Sagorian. Her head cocked back and laughter filled the room. "Cute little trick half pint, but it won't work you won't beat me. It's a fight you will lose, the last fight you will ever lose." She cried out her screechy voice hurting my ears leaving it ringing. She spread her arms out, her long fingers reaching for the air. The room began to grow cold as frost began to infect the floor around her. Ice began to form in her hands; her smile grew on her face as two axes built themselves in her hands. "See the best protection come from those who know what they are doing. Emotions are a burden that gives powers to those who don't deserve it" she said her eyes an icy white stared into me.

"Oh so like you?" I taunted her smile became an angered frown. "YOU LITTLE BRAT!" she screamed as she came running for me. She threw the first axe, it came spinning towards me. I jumped and rolled away. The axe implanted itself into the wall and instantly began to melt away. I looked towards mother Sagorian as shock painted her face, it grew serious again as she began to come towards me again. She tried to strike with her axe but my sword struck it and a spark lit. She grunted and began to push down onto the axe, my sword lowering under the weight. My arms began shaking, losing their strength. She screeched out in pain and bent backwards. A smoke arrow hit her back, fading away as quickly as it struck her. She looked back to Elijah holding a bow at the ready with the next arrow aimed at her. She smiled evilly and began to lumber towards him throwing the next axe at him. He quickly dodged to the right. Her and quickly recreated the next axe ready to attack. He let the arrow loose as it swiftly flew the air and hit her in her shoulder the force making her shoulder jump back. It dissipated into the air leaving a bleeding wound. I quickly got up and ran to Elijah and my sword hit her axe. She swung again; I struck my sword to her axe again pushing hard. Her axe skidded along the sword and swung down to the side. She laughed and grunted, quickly I swung but she quickly regained herself and defended. Her eyes a sickening white and her smile wide. Elijah noticed his sister lying on the ground and quickly ran to her aid. Mother Sagorian's focus followed the movement and I struck again. Her axe's handle catching my sword. I kicked her in her gut and she fell to her back still holding her axe up to my sword. I began to push my weight down onto the sword. Her laughter grew as she looked into my eyes. With a sudden shove she pushed me into the air and onto the floor just away from her.

The impact as I hit the floor made my hand loosen on the sword as it flew just out of my reach and landed in a pile of ashes on the floor. My lungs gasped for air, winded from the landing. She stood laughing throwing her axe down. "I told you. You don't deserve a happy ending, you are no hero. You won't survive. I will make sure its quick and painless I promise" her smile burning into my memory. She stalked towards me forming a sword of ice in her hands. "You've lost it all. Why? Because you allowed emotions to get the best of you. You could've listened and none of this would've happened. Yet you decided to add to the deaths under your name. Look at the pain you caused. It sickens me" she taunted getting closer to me. Paralysed in fear and struggling for breath I looked around the room. She was right. I caused so much destruction, but not as much as she did with her cruelty. I knew this would have to be the last of it. She stood towering over my struggling body smiling wide. "I have always wanted to this. Since the day you walked in with Elijah and Bellivia. You are a parasite, a nothing that needs to be destroyed before you infect anyone else with ideas. You've already done too much; to your mother, to the twins parents, to this village" she said her voice piercing into me. I was a monster, a monster I had created myself. I had hurt every single person who tried to help me.

I shook away these thoughts. She had the sword to my throat, moving it to just next to my throat to cut off my head. I closed my eyes, anger burned in me making me want to fight. My body to weak to move, I wasn't ready to lose this battle. Not now not ever. When I heard her cry of pain I let all the anger loose my body shuddering from the surge of power flowing out into the ground. I opened my eyes to mother Sagorian's body leaning to me her chest pierced with a spike of ice and embers shining a bright blue. Blood began to pour from her mouth, her last breath escaping. The ash and ember spike fell away and her body slumped down onto me. I pushed her off and looked to Elijah who was standing bow drawn and ready to strike again. He chuckled as he looked down shaking his head. She was finally gone. Forever. I began to smile and laugh hysterically while looking him.

The house groaned crying out that it was time for us to leave this place, this hellhole. I got up my body uneasy from all the damages. Bellivia stood awkwardly her one arm holding the other; she looked to the ground as though she was ashamed. Elijah rolled his eyes and walked past her purposely nudging into her. She scoffed, her eyes following her brother. "Is that the thanks I get?" she scoffed. Elijah came to a sudden halt; he swung around and looked at her. "Thanks? THANKS?! You don't deserve one. What have you ever done to deserve one you spoiled little teacher's pet!" he screamed out in anger. She rolled her eyes and walked right up to his face, "at least I didn't need a skinny little half pint to gain my strength unlike someone I know" she replied with a snide tone in her voice. She gave him a quick hard shove; he took a few steps back. "She saved you! She saved me! More than you did... how exactly mother Sagorian caught you right by the entrance?" he asked in a sarcastic and rude tone. The house groaned again threatening us to move or be crushed, they didn't hear anything other their own voices. "That was a choice I made to protect me! I couldn't save you that not my fault! I would've died, and frankly would have never fit in the hole" she cried. "Uhm guys" my nervous voice tried to interrupt, they both turned to me and let out a bellowing "what?!" The house began to creak and crack as they realised that the house was going to fall away. We quickly ran towards the doorway bits of debris falling from above. We jumped for the doorway as the house finally collapsed into a pile of rubble and dust. Mother Sagorian's house of hell was at its knees. Fallen away and turned away into a memory. We were free.
