CHAPTER 16: THE MISLEADING CASE (STRANGE)

Two years have passed since I left and now I'm back. How? I keep going against Mom's order and now she finally gave in. Saying to find a job and not become a burden.

These past two years made me learn how to use my ability to see the dead on use. And I admit, seeing those dead people is quite annoying. Once they learn that I can see them, they keep pestering me to help them with unnecessary things. Luckily for me, they can't go far to the place where they died. So to avoid being pestered by those spirits, I pretend that I don't see them.

I was currently wandering around the neighborhood I grew up in since I left, there's a lot that change. While I was wandering around I came across a kid, standing in the old factory, staring at me.

I started to walk and went in front of her. Since it wasn't a ghost that died naturally or by accident, it can't talk to me freely. They can only talk when I ask them specific questions that they can answer or I can order them.

"Bring me to where they found your body," I order. She began to walk and I go after her. led me to the deep part of the factory. After a few seconds, she vanishes indicating that we reach where her body was found.

I want to ask her a question but she suddenly disappears. Guess I'm going to find the answer on my own. I search the area to find any trace of any clue that can solve her case. I was in the midst of searching when someone pointed a gun at me.

"Raise your hands and don't make any action," the voice command, and I follow his order. He put my hands on my back and handcuffs me.

"Wait, I wasn't the one who killed the kid," oh cr*p, it slip out.

"Heh, you weren't the one who killed the kid? Then how did you know it was a kid who died here and was murdered?" he scoffs. What a great mistake, Scarlet. I'm so proud of you.

"I swear I didn't kill her," I repeated not fighting back. He pushes me indicating to move outside the factory.

"Whether you killed the kid or not, I'll find it out since I'm a police officer," he stated and guide me to the car. I also saw that he called someone, might be his teammates. What great luck do I have that I'm involved with a case again? Definitely bad luck.

The car halted and I felt deja vu when I saw where he brings me. Sigh. It seems that I'm going to meet them again and this soon. I didn't even prepare myself to meet them.

He brings me to a table where another officer is seated and made me sit on one of the chairs. "Who did you bring, Officer Wales?" the officer asked.

"Someone's lurking on the scene of the child we found few days ago," he answered.

"Then, miss. Can you tell me what is your name and what are you doing at the crime scene?" the officer asks me.

"I'm Willow Scarlet Smith, I was just investigating the scene since the kid wants me to help her," I answered honestly.

"Wants you to help her? Miss, are you joking with me? How can a dead child asks you for help?" the officer scoffs.

"Mister, I can see the dead people's spirits. Can that answer your questions?"

After I said that, they burst into laughter. Who cares if they believe me or not? If Captain Li was here, she'll believe me.

"Sir, I think she lost her mind?" Officer Wales insults.

"Aiden, where's the suspect you said?" a new voice was heard stopping their laughter. A voice I knew so well.

Officer Wales saluted her but before he can speak, I hug that person. "CAPTAIN LI, THEY ARE BULLYING ME!!!" I whined like a child.

"S-scar?" she mumbles. I broke the hug and look at her stunned expression.

"Ay yay, Captain. Your favorite helper is back," I said cheerfully. Saluting her on the process. She was still digesting what was happening before a voice broke her trance.

"Two years ago, you are the main victim and now, you are the prime suspect. Seriously, Scarlet, what's running on your mind?"

"For your information, I told these guys I was there because the kid ask for my help and they didn't believe me," I hissed at him and he raised an eyebrow.

"Do you think they will believe you when told them you can see spirits? Of course, they won't believe you," he scolds.

"You are mean," I pouted.

"You change a lot, Scar. When I met you before you only talk when necessary and now, you talk a lot," Archie interrupted.

"Guess dealing with those annoying ghosts change my personality," I stated.

"That's enough, let's talk about this later. Scar, what did you find?" Captain Li intervenes. Guess I'm going to play police again.

"Nothing, I just feel that something is wrong but can't pinpoint it," I shrugged. Something was bothering me with this case. Something doesn't feel right. "Captain Li, can you let me investigate this matter?"

"NO," they said.

"Why? I can help you,"

"This matter doesn't involve you, so no," Elliott clarifies.

"But..."

"Scarlet, you are not a police officer. We only let you help us before because you are the target of the culprits and we can use you as bait that time. That's all, so you didn't need to meddle with this. Go home," everyone went silent after Elliott said that.

"A bait, huh?" I look at him tearing up. " I get it. I shouldn't bother you guys anymore. I'm sorry,"

I left the headquarters still trying not to cry. Why should I cry? He was right after all. I always baiting myself so, why should I cry? It's not like I'm going to force them because I want to help. He doesn't need to say that rudely.
