Chapter 17.2

As Rangi looked around the town for a bit there was one place that he was clearly not going to at all during his short stay here. That would be the guild as though he had heard a lot of interesting things about it from a villager that claim some of their ancestors as being members of the guild.

The reason none of them wanted to become members of the guild. This is because of what they were told next if they became members of the guild then they could be tracked more easier and there could come times when they have to go on a job or request through force.

It was something that was told to him over and over again before he ever started leaving the village to explore the surrounding area. That the guild exists and that he should never join it because it could lead to him getting into trouble later on down the line. That the guilds that are around in for them are nothing like the ones that they hear about in the story that has been passed down by their ancestors.

Thus sighing Rangi did just that avoid the guild house as he never signs up to join it even though it would have made something a whole lot easier when it came to getting money and knowledge about the world outside of his home village. With him now being hunted down for some reason that was alien to him as the only reason he seemed to be targeted was that he was from the village in the first place.

If he had joined the guild then it would have been possible for them to use it to track him down. The guild was this third party group that was run by those separate from those in power in this world. That is merely how it was in the story of their ancestors which are just stories thus none of them are considered real or at least not fully based on their reality after.

Rangi had seen it for himself as someone that had joined the guild when something went down and they were trying to go on the run, They did not get far before they are being a part of the guild is what got them caught as for all the benefits of the guild there was also downside towards being a part of it as well. The person that was caught tried going off the grid once they were on the run but have signed up to the guild at all was their downfall thus how they were caught in the first place.

However not being a member of the guild did not mean that Rangi was unable to make any money while he traveled around. One of the downsides to the guild was not everyone could afford to pay them the fee to have their quest just posted on their wall. Once the job was posted it then had to be picked up by someone as the guild was merely in between the one requesting the job and the one that would be carrying it out. Although there were many cases where no one would take the job thus the client had just paid the guild for nothing as the job goes undone.

This is where those like Rangi and others would come in as they would take the jobs directly from the client themselves. There was more danger involved this way as were numerous ways this could backfire for both sides given that there was not a set in stone structure for how the transaction would go down. There were as many shady clients as there were shady people that were looking to take the jobs they offered. It was not wise to go down this route as biting the hand that feeds you would lead to them being rejected on site. Some unspoken rules and laws were followed even if they were not formal ones enforced by any formal means. Because they were not formal laws they were taken a little more seriously as those that broke them were not welcomed. Rangi become one of those that would take the jobs that were never given to the guild because they would never be accepted by the members in time in the first place.

Former guild members that tried getting into this line of work some of them would not last long. That was because they did not realize just what they were getting themselves into by trying to go this route. Once they got on the wrong side of the people there were no second chances as all it would take it just one serious screw up to lose their trust in accomplishing the task that they were given.

Though he was not planning on staying in this town for too long. It would be long enough that he could get what he came here to accomplish done and then get out of here before too long had passed. He was still close enough to not only what he rightfully is assuming are the ruins of his village(he has not gotten formally informed of its destruction just yet) and where he found both Gau and Let.

He was spending the first day here just looking over the place to get a decent feel for the town itself. Looking around at several places and trying to pick up on different things that only those that take jobs directly from the people rather than the guild itself would pick up on.

Also, he was thinking of various ways to attempt getting away from this town should he need to as he would not want not knowing a general idea of his surroundings being something that proves to be a hindrance to him rather than an asset later on.
