MEMORY LANE II

** Buea. 2010

Prinsley came back from school to meet his parents at home which surprise him because they are never this early at home. They usually come back by sunset that is 6pm, when the house maid is about to leave.

"Mom? Dad? Why are guys so early today? What happened for you to come back this early because I know that something must be urgent before you decide to comeback this early"

" So we can't come back early to be with our son without it being an emergency" siad his father teasingly

" 'sob' 'sob' Honey, our son has grown up so much that he doesn't want to see us again. He prefer when we are not with him, we are a nuisance to him now" siad his mother feigning cries and putting on a sad face.

" No mom, it's not like that. I'm just surprised you know because you aren't usually at home at this time and... Ehhh ehhh" the child tried to explain himself but ended up lacking words with teary eyes.

His parents seeing his confused face and teary eyes busrt out in laughters

"This is not fair you guys are making fun of me again. You said I have grown up and that now you won't be teasing me again but you did it again." he complained pouting and threatening to cry.

"See who always say he has grown up crying like a baby. Angela, I don't think he has grown up for us to give him that gift" siad his father

"That's true, the gift is for big people and we can't give that to a baby. Our boy is still a baby so we can't give him this he can't take care of it well, we better keep it for sometime when he has grow up." replied his mother.

" No mom, see. I am not crying. See how tall I am now with my muscles. I can carry heavy things and see how tall I am, last year I was short like this but now I'm very tall compare to last year." Said the boy trying to convince his parents by all possible means to give him the gift.

Seeing how serious the boy was and all his antics his parents couldn't help but burst out in laughters.

The boy crossed his hand across his chest and glared at his parents who were across him with anger and resentment for teasing him.

Seeing his angry baby face that can make anyone seeing it, fill a pang of sympathy and want to give him anything, his mother felt little sad for making him angry.

"Leonard stop laughing..." His mother glared at her husband asking him to stop "Our little baby has grown up..."

"Mom! I'm not a baby... I'm a boy now." replied Prinsley grumpingly.

" Yes, my baby is a big boy. I know that but for me you are still my little baby." said his mother. His mother and father stared at each other for some time before smiling.

"Okay, close your eyes and let us take you you to where your gift is."

His mother took a blind fold and tied it on his eyes, they then left the parlor for a another room that serves as play room. When the reach they asked him to remain eyes closed when the remove the blind fold.

Prinsley began to become impatient and anxious in what the gift is all about.

" You can now open your eyes" said his father

When he opened his eyes, what he saw made him to be stunned for some minutes before he jumped in joy with a smile full of smile and started running around his gift.

" Mommy and daddy! Thank you! Thank you! Finally you guys have given me a piano and I can now begin practicing and become the best pianist ever." shouted the little boy in joy.

Yes, his parents got him a piano and yes for a child of 10 years a piano is far fetched for a gift but he is quite smart for his age and he has been insisting on having a piano for years after watching the piano concertos of Beethoven and Mozart on tv.

Since then, he has been insisting on having a piano and becoming like them. Today could be considered a one of the happiest of his life.

He tried playing some notes on the piano only to end up making a cacophony of sound, making hia parents stop him.

" Stop it" shouted his parents

This made him blush from shame of not being able of playing a good tune.

" Tomorrow the piano teacher we got for you will be coming home to teach and accord the piano according to your level" said his dad.

" Enough with this, let go get some dinner after he has changed from his school uniform... Today I'm the one cooking" said his mother.

Prinsley immediately ran up to change and then came back down to meet his dad in the living room watching tv and his mom in the kitchen cooking. Knowing well that he can't disturb his mother who was cooking he began pestering his father about the time the piano teacher will be coming making his father annoyed.

After been annoyed for more than 10 minutes his father threatened that if he doesn't sit down and watch the tv in peace, he will cancel the appointment with the teacher and give the piano to someone else.

After having dinner they spent some time together and went to bed. His parents his room to see him smiling in his sleep making them happy.

The next day the teacher came and accorded the piano, taught Prinsley the basis to play piano and left. He was so happy to have finally started playing piano that he will always sleep with a smiling face and have dreams of how he became a famous pianist recognized world wide.

He continued his piano lessons thrice a week for about two months and his piano teacher was very impressed with his adaptational skills and how fast he can learn for his young age.

20th November 2010

Today was a rather gloomy day for the family, this is the day that last year aunt Jessica was buried and they had to go to her grave and to place some flowers.

All dressed in black the family they left for the cemetery located at the church graveyard. They bought flowers on the way and went.

" Jessi, how are you? Do you know how much I miss you? " siad Angela crying and sobbing.

" Aunt Jessica, I miss you so much, who will be playing with me and be keeping me good things" said the boy on his aunt's grave.

" They will pay for why they did to you I assure you that." said Angela looking very angry.

Her husband directly indicated by eyes gesture that it's not the time and place today because the child was present. After spending some time on the grave they left to go back home.

In the car, the boy asked his parents if he will be having his piano today but they told him it wasnot possible and they will reschedule with the teacher and that the day was their day to spend time together. **
