Chapter Eleven

The tension in the air was so thick. At the first sight of dawn, following Bree's order, I brought the entire family to the sitting room. It was time to set things right.

Everyone looked confused but no one dared say a word. My parents knew that the only way I could call a meeting so early in the morning was for something really important.

I cleared my throat to begin. The air was so cold but my palms were sweaty, that I had to clean them on my jeans, every now and then.

To say I was scared is an understatement, I was terrified.

What if as soon as they are exposed, they pounce on us and kill us?

I looked at them one last time, sitting peacefully side by side on the twin sofa.

It has to end now.

So without mincing words I blurted out

"Uncle and Aunty are Vampires and they are planning to kill us"

There was a moment of silence as if everyone was trying to take in what I said, so I continued

"For weeks, I noticed their shady behaviour, I heard Aunt over the phone with someone talking about how the thirst for blood is high, I stumbled upon a jar of fangs in their bathroom and let's not forget about the late night meetings"

I said in one breath.

No one said anything. I stood at the center of the sitting room looking everyone in their faces.

"Why would you think such a thing?"

Aunt finally spoke. She didn't look at all surprised by my accusations.

"And if we really are vampires, this is how you're going to expose us?, without any back up plan incase we decide to kill you all right now"

She added looking me straight in the eye.

I looked at Ma and Pa sitting calmly as if they didn't just hear what I said.

Micheal looked like he was about to pass out and Bree looked like she wanted to be anywhere else but here.

"We are vampire hunters. We hunt down vampires, we are not vampires. If we really are vampires you would not have lasted this long"

Uncle was was so calm as he said all these.

I looked closely at him, and I felt he was telling the truth, but I was not convinced.

"What about the late night meetings?"

I asked looking him straight in the eyes. The eyes are said to be the window to the soul, looking him straight in his eyes will enable me read his expression to know if he is lying.

"That's when we usually hunt them down. They don't usually come out during the day time"

Aunty answered instead.

"Is that not risky?"

Bree suddenly blurted out

"It is, but anything to keep the community save. We started noticing the vampire's invasion few years ago. We thought we were covered, protected from them, but they started invading. We had to seek help from a sorcerer who gave us powers to defeat them. We then formed a group of Vampire hunters, that's what we call ourselves"

Uncle answered.

Bree nodded, I could see her mind was somewhere else.

"What about the fangs I found in the bathroom?"

I continued my interrogations, still half way convinced.

Aunty decided to answer this time

"The sorcerer told us back then that the Vampire's souls are too strong, they could resurrect themselves, the only way to make sure they die permanently is to pull out their fangs"

"So why keep them?"

Michael asked, he looked better now.

"We just thought it would be cool to keep track of the number of Vampires we kill"

There was silence after that.

I looked at Bree who was avoiding all possible eye contact with me.

I looked at Ma and Pa, they looked as if they've heard this story a million times. Of course they've heard it, and they didn't think it was okay to loop their children in.

I rolled my eye, let out a breath and with a small voice I apologized.

"I'm sorry Uncle, Aunty for the misunderstanding. I was just really scared because I keep seeing things and I believe someone is after my life"

"Someone is really after your life"

Aunty said in a small voice

"We are all in danger"

The force was so strong, I felt myself floating through space like I was being transported through a supernatural realm. I couldn't feel my body, I couldn't think, I couldn't breathe.

Like the speed of light, I felt myself tossed to another dimension where everything made sense again.

I could feel my body again, I could think, and I could finally breathe.

The first breathe I took in was not fresh at all. It was stale... so stale that I gagged, even in my semi-consciousnes.

The smell of animal dung was so heavy in the air, my stomach stirred in a very unsettling way as I took in a breath. I opened my eyes slowly, looking around to take in my surrounding.

My stomach rolled as soon as I sat up, I had a head rush and I felt slightly dizzy. I ended up throwing up on the floor.

When my stomach settled down, I stood up to look around.

I heard the grunting of animals nearby and I noticed a pile of hay in front of me, so I guessed I must be in a stable.

There was a window in front of me but it was so high. Looking out the window from the ground, I noticed it was almost dark.

I pulled a small stool I saw by the corner close to the wall and climbed on it to properly look out the window. As I climbed up, I almost lost my footing but I steadied myself.

I was in a very large ranch, with tall creepy trees obscuring the main house. I looked towards the large gate to see if I could sport any sign as to where I was.

I looked around, then my eyes landed on an address by the gate.

My heart raced.

It seamed the old woman's portion teleported me directly to my family.

She was a witch after all.

Somewhere very far way.....

The older man was fuming, the younger one was shaking.

"You have just one job to do and you can't do it"

The older man's eyes were glowing as red as ever.

"Your grandfather's life is in your hands. If she survives and gets together with her sister, we are ruined. The vampire reign is over. Together, they have a power that we can't compete with"

The older man was pacing so restlessly.

"I've watched her, I've looked for opportunities to strike but she's never alone. The one time I tried, I couldn't get to her"

The younger man's voice was trembling.

"You have to kill her or give her the venom to transform her"

"I don't think that will work. She is impenetrable"

The younger man was running his hands through his hair looking agitated.

"Nonsense. Everyone has a weak point, find hers and use it"

The younger one nodded.

"The other sister has escaped, I believe she is heading to the Saviour. You must kill the Saviour before the week runs out"
