Even the most reliable Combat Instincts had issued its warning far too late. Otherwise, Damian might have been able to step back and stand in place until he figured out the source of the problem.
Of course, now that it was already a done deal, what truly mattered was figuring out the cause behind this and the consequences that would follow.
Damian wasn't the type to wallow in despair just because someone or something pulled a fast one on him.
'Is it actually someone or something?'
In fact, the first thing he wanted to identify was whether this was man-made or gate-made. If this was just a random trap that was added to the incomplete Gate over time, then his chances of surviving this would greatly increase.
'As long as this Gate isn't as self-conscious as the Labyrinth.'
As an incomplete Gate known for its simplicity to the point of being repeatedly used by the Hunter Association, it was very unlikely for this invisible trap to be truly fatal.
