*Swoosh* *Swoosh*
In the barely visible tropical forest, a figure blurred past the trees. Wherever the figure went the trees fell down one after the other.
*Huff huff huff*
The figure was Roland, after coming face to face with the Gorilla, Roland forgot what he said he'd do when he saw one in his previous life.
With adrenaline jolting through his veins, he ran. He heard the ferocious roars behind him, and firmly held his dagger. The thick tropical trees that required a machete and some elbow grease, was no difference to butter against a hot knife. Sure the was a bit of resistance, but Roland was to focused on running to care about that.
Roland followed the river back down stream and and quickly arrived back on the beach. He stopped and glanced back, 'Was it not following me? I could have sworn.'
On the beach not far away, was the shipwrecked merchant ship, the peopel who were lying on the ground unconcious had already woken up and were busy treating the injured. They were all hurdled up near the trees
"How many casualties do we have?" First Commander shouted. He had a bleading shoulder that Apus was taking care of. His expression was horrible, understably so.
The crew members were all startled, they had never seen the always calm First Commander, this worked up. He was evidently in a bad mood. A few crew members left to go search.
The beach was littered with fragments of ships and cargo everywhere. Roland saw a broken crate that had some fruites inside. He quickly wolfed down as much food as he possible could.
'There's strength in numbers I guess, and there is food' Roland quickly made a decision, he tidied himself up, hide his dagger, and walked towrds the group.
"Hey you! come here!" A crew mate spoted Roland and called him over. The man looked at Roland's bloody ankel, pointed towards the group, and said "Go there and report so you can get treated"
This was caused by the rope that Roland used to tie his foot. Although the bleeding had stopped, his ankle was bloody.
"First Commander, there's still some people floating on the surface of the water, and theres still no sign of the young master!" Just as Roland arrived he heard a man report.
"First Commander, we've scouted the place and saw some red pythons. It turns out that we made it to the island, the only problem is that we are still quite far off from the city!" Another two man carrying weapons reported.
'Pythons? Looks like it was a good idea to leave theforest.' Roland felt his body shiver. 'What if I had ecounted them and I died?'
Hearing these repots back to back, First Commander's Face was a little unsightly. Of the original fifty men, ten or so were left. Not only that, but the large cargo that had important goods wasn't in good conditions. This was very bad for a merchant family. But all of that was dwarfed by the fact that, the young master of the family was M.I.A. The fact that his body wasn't found amoung the corpses, gave First Commander some hope.
'My fault, all because of me. Had we stuck to the original route, we wouldn't have had to deal with those bandits or that tsunami, *Sigh* There is no need to think about this right now!'
First Commander looked at the distance sunset and issued his commands, "The sun is gonna set soon. You two quickly chop down some firewood. You two sulvage as much cargo as you can. The rest follow me, we'll go retreave the bodies and try to see if there's any survivors left that need rescuing!"
"Tomorrow we'll build some rafts and sail for the city! Now get a move on!"
"Sir!" As soon as the commands were issued, everyone seluted and were on their way. Roland along with someone else, were tasked with bringing the cargo.
Time quickly moved, the sun had already sat, in it's place the stars had come out to occupy the sky, so the visibility had dropped considerably. A group of twenty or so people were sitting around a large campfire, eating. Not far away was a line of mounds, corpses buried in the sand.
Ten or so people were found to be alive but another sum of people were found dead. This caused the mood for everyone to be damp.
"Ahhh where am I? What is going on?" Just then, a startled person woke up in panic. He pointed at the First Commander and shouted "Mason, what is going on?"
It was the envoy of the merchant family, The new captain of the ship. hearing this, the crew looked at him with unfriendly gazes.
One crew mate couldn't hold back and shouted, "It's your fault! Your the one who told us to take that dangerous route, despite us wording against it! While you were hiding away in the your cabin we had-"
"Enough!" Mason or First Commander, interrupted, while giving the crew a sharp gaze. He turned to the man lying on the floor and sad, "A lot of unforseen circumstances took place. The ships destroyed and a lot of the merchandise is either damaged or lost at sea. We were lucky enough to arrive at 'Dead heart Island', I'll take full responsibility when we return!"
Hearing his words, the crew were appalled, the previous crew-memeber who had an outburst, wanted to say something but he didn't when he saw the First Commander's Sharp gaze.
"Ahem, it's good that you'll take responsibility." The 'Captain' cleared his throats and held his head up. "Now, what's the next course of action?"
It was clear to everyone that the 'Captain' was incompetent, and no one respected him. He should be the one at fault here, also, no one understood as to why First Commander was taking responsibility or why he was so respectfully to this man.
"I was thinking that, at dawn we build some rafts, one team will follow the beach and go to the city and report what happened. The rest will go out into he sea and see if we can find anything, what do you think?" First Commander asked with a respectful expression.
"Hmm that's a fantastic idea. But you, me and Dr. Apus will be on the team that is going to the city!" The captain nodded and said in a commanding tone.
"Hmm I can't go with you, I have to supervise here, the young master is still missing afterall!" First Commander shook his head.
"Hmph who cares about that useless person who can't even see! It's fine you can stay!" The captain was about to continue but he kept quite.
If looks could kill he'd been dead at least a thousand times by now. The crewmates weren't just giving him unfriendly looks anymore, they were sharp gazes now. He wasn't a complete idiot so he kept his mouth shut.
"Quickly finish your meal, I'll keep watch the first half of the night!"
Everyone finished up but the captain, complained. Thinking that it wasn't safe, he request a cabin. Everyone chipped in and quickly a small cabin was built. The others were obvious angered by this, but First Commander stepped in.
Quickly everyone was asleep, except for Roland.
As soon as the sun set and the stars came out, Roland started hearing voices. He looked around and saw no one. Strangely enough it seemed like only he could hear them, the other person who was helping Roland, a young man in his early twenties, looked at him with a questioning gaze.
The voices kept saying, "Ignis, Ignis Stellaris."
Different from the systems voice, it sounded like at least multiple people were talking at the same time. The voices were soft, and sounded like women voices.
'Am I going crazy?' Roland tried to ignore it but it didn't seem like it belonged to the system. Roland looked around and responded, "Yes, hello?"
"The stars, we are the stars and you are Ignis, Ignis Stellaris, son of Zephyr Steelwing." The voices sounded again
Roland was surprised and confused at the same time. The name Roland was a name he gave himself(the author gave) based on his previous life, he didn't know anything about the previous owner of this body.
If what the mysterious voices are saying, then the name of the previous owner of this body was Ignis. "The 'stars' must not know that the previous 'tenant' of this body has been 'evicted'.
Roland was confused but for the sake of information he played along, "How can that be, my family name and my father's family name isn't the same?"
Looking at Roland, the man besides him looked at the sky, before looking at him again, "Dude are you Ok?"
"Yeah! I'm fine." Roland was embarrassed, he use to also looked at people who talked to themselves with scrutiny.
"At night! We can only speak with you at night, when the stars are out."
Roland nodded and carried on with his work. Now that it was night time it was time to get some answers.
