At a research institute, a young man sprinted with his phone in hand.
Upon reaching the office, he stood in front of an elderly man with silver hair.
The old man frowned slightly. "This is a research institute. If you want to have a run, go outside!
"You should temper your impulsive nature.
"When I saw the project application you submitted earlier, I started having second thoughts about your qualifications!"
This elderly man was Wang Guoxing.
Having dedicated his life to scientific research, he could be considered a veteran of this research institute.
In the early years, their nation had struggled.
Their weaponry paled in comparison to other countries'.
To strengthen themselves, he followed almost all research projects, from handguns to machine guns to experimental devices.
He was an authoritative expert in nearly every field.
He had also authored numerous papers.
Even venturing into the realm of technologies seemingly impossible by modern science, he proposed valuable research directions.
In this field, you simply had to know who Wang Guoxing is!
The young man scratched his head and wisely chose not to explain himself.
"Sir, something significant has transpired!
"We've witnessed research technology that surpasses its era!
"Someone has developed research technology that defies its era!"
Wang frowned slightly. "Don't jump to conclusions so hastily.
"Cross-era research technology refers to technological advancements beyond what's achievable by contemporary methods.
"How could someone have achieved this?
"Did you have a nightmare during your lunch break?"
Wang did not have much faith in the young man before him.
He knew this student well.
While gifted in scientific research, he was far too imaginative for a scientist.
Wang remained unconvinced.
The young man's excitement surged.
"Sir, it's true!
"Someone has created cross-era research technology. I witnessed it firsthand!"
Wang gave it some thought.
He turned to scrutinize his student and ensure his mental state before speaking.
"How is that possible?!
"Humanity's current scientific research technology has hit a bottleneck.
"We've projected it will take at least fifty years for us to break through in certain cutting-edge fields!
"Let's not even talk about scientific advancements.
"Understand that crossing eras is like the difference between a smartphone and an original mobile phone.
"Merely upgrading a chip doesn't constitute cross-era research technology!"
The young man released a sigh.
He placed the phone in front of Wang.
"Sir, just give this video a look!"
Wang stared at the phone.
On it played a live stream of Xia Zixin escorting Captain Zhao and others in an elevator.
As the elevator began moving, Wang's pupils constricted.
His expression transformed into one of shock.
As Xia Zixin spoke levitation technology, anti-gravity devices, and magnetic propulsion, his body trembled.
"Sir, sir?! What's happening?"
The young man was startled by Wang's reaction.
Wang took a deep breath.
He gazed at the young man and then smiled.
"Sun Liang!
"You're reminding me our current research project only exists in concept.
"But we can't halt our research.
"You showed me this CGI to ease my pressure, didn't you?
"In truth, I'm not feeling pressured at all.
"I understand this technology couldn't have emerged while I was alive.
"Hence, I'm simply striving to explore the direction of our research!"
As he spoke, Wang set the phone aside.
"I know you're looking out for my well-being.
"How about this? Join us for dinner at home after work. I'll have my wife prepare your favorite braised chicken!"
However, Sun Liang shook his head.
"Sir, I didn't think that far ahead!
"I'm aware you've been discussing cross-era technology's research direction with the project team.
"But as a researcher, the most fundamental rule is not to disrupt others' projects. I wasn't aware of the pressures you've been facing!"
He pointed to the phone.
"This isn't CGI.
"This is a livestream. It's happening right now!
"If you're skeptical, you can ask around and verify it.
"We can't do real-time CGI at such levels yet!"
Wang regarded his student skeptically.
"This isn't CGI?"
Sun Liang laughed helplessly. "I wouldn't waste your time with some fancy animation. I wouldn't even ask you to watch it at work!"
Wang gave it some thought.
"Show me the stream. If Saa is hosting it, I have little reason to doubt its credibility.
"If I discover you're deceiving me, you can forget about that braised chicken for a year."
Sun Liang widened his eyes.
Yet, he wasn't afraid.
It was the truth.
He passed the phone back to Wang.
At that moment, Xia Zixin was explaining the situation on the ninth floor to Saa and the others.
"This floor has numerous warehouses. We can take turns exploring and then retrieve the pistols!"
She led everyone to the entrance of the first warehouse as she spoke.
When the warehouse door swung open, gasps resounded.
Was this a warehouse? No, this was a damn armory!
The warehouse was packed with pistols!
Rows upon rows, they were densely arranged!
"Oh my God!"
"Are we in the Matrix?!"
"They could probably assemble an army armed with pistols!"
"This is my first time seeing so many guns. It's even more astonishing than watching a movie!"
"How did Xia Zixin's father manage to produce so many pistols? Is he working 24 hours a day?!"
"Could he be working overtime instead of going on that blind date?!"
"This is chaotic. It's insanely chaotic. Even criminals work so hard these days. What reason do we have to complain?"
"To think that an average person could possess so many firearms. There must be a problem with the system."
