Chapter 27: No Real Escape

Carrigan

The galloping noises were ever impressive as the wind blew through my hair. It felt incredible for a hot day, and my horse, Hennessy, and I kept going as we made our rounds. I passed my elder sister working in the fields, whistling out to get her attention. She turned toward me, waving her arm back and forth. I’d catch up with her later in the day. Hennessy picked up speed, and she neighed out into the land.

I laughed, petting her as she continued on, cheering her. We still had to find my younger sister and meet up with Dad. There were things to do, after all. The semester was over, and I was back to my normal chores. It felt great, and though I still lived on the ranch, sometimes it was just reassuring to have a day to remind myself what it was I loved about living there.
