It began when a rose-like smell assaulted his nose. 

Ylana Sapphire and Rowan Garnet are the children of two mafia bosses. To build an alliance between their families, their fathers arrange a marriage between the two.

Rowan is reluctant because he and his family are secretly wolf shifters and Ylana seems to hate both the plan and Rowan for unknown reasons. But all that changes when Rowan discovers that Ylana is his mate.

Now Ylana is left not only navigating the new world of shifters but marriage within the mafia world as well.

Rowan cleared his throat. "You know, we don't have to do anything tonight, or ever, if you don't want. One of the couches has a pull-out bed I can sleep on."

Ylana made her decision right then. "I think we should. That way we can know if we're . . . compatible that way.” She heard Rowan's breath quicken. "If you want."

Rowan was running around the woods with Ginger in his wolf form under the full moon. It felt like a scratch had been itched when he shifted. The full moons were now the only times he shifted because he didn’t want to risk Ylana ever seeing it. Harkin and Ginger still went out for little runs every night, which filled Rowan with anxiety. He’d sit in the kitchen stiff as a board, not relaxing until his dad and sister came back inside. 


The September night marked the fourth full moon of Rowan’s marriage to Ylana. The fact that Ylana had yet to step foot outside of her suite at night eased Rowan’s tension with each night that passed. He was starting to feel like everything would run smoothly until he was ready to tell Ylana the secret. 


Suddenly, Rowan heard a scream piercing through the night. It was Ylana. 


Rowan quickly spun around and started running toward the sound. As he got closer, he could hear Ylana’s frantic heartbeat and smell her fear.
