Chapter 29: A Silver Knight

The first soldier to reach him attempts a diagonal strike with his sword. Only for Vincent to catch his attacking hand by his wrist and twisting it behind his back. Using the soldier Vincent blocks the others while stopping them in their tracks. Immediately Vincent pushes the pinned soldier into one while maneuvering around the other's spear. Taking hold of the spear with his right hand as he turns around Vincent takes it from the surprised soldier. Continuing the motion he brings the spear around and uses it to knock him out with a blow to the head.

Continuing the motion Vincent draws a line in the sand around him and Colin. He readies the spear in both hands taking a defensive stance. The soldiers and onlookers are shocked by the initial events. A few individuals even cheer him on.

Meanwhile a flashback plays out in Vincent's mind when he first started training. Sir Rollrick had been washing him during combat practice and noticed his blind spot. After taking Vincent down with a blow. He revealed to Vincent his tunnel vision. How he would become focused on only one part of a fight or opponent and it would leave him open.

"Don't let up! Take him!", the leader of the soldiers orders. The order brings Vincent back to the current situation. The soldiers charge Vincent and he uses the spear to block them.

One soldier attacks him with a downward strike while another aims for Vincent's side with a horizontal swipe. Vincent holds up the spear to block the strike from above before spinning it around to catch the second attack and reposition his hands to one end. As he spins down himself he calls out to Colin to duck. Missing the boy he sweeps the soldiers legs with the spear knocking them over, however, he barely notices the next wave that follows closely behind.

He barely manages to block the strike of an axe aimed for his head. Pinned down Vincent uses his legs to push up while releasing his right hand on the spear. He takes the opening and sweeps the soldier's legs from under him. At the same time bringing the spear in his left hand around in an arc. Throwing up sand in the soldiers faces as they close in.

Knocking out one soldier with a blow to the head he thrust the blunt in of the lance at another. At the sound of another attack he turns the spear while keeping a grip with both hands and shifting his feet. The maneuver causes the soldier to stop to avoid the hit from above, but with his arms twisted as well Vincent brings the end back up. Unraveling his arms Vincent thrust the blunt end of the spear.

The crowd erupts in cheers and amazement. "Incredible! So that's the power of a silver knight!"

"No, that's the power of the savior of Morage."

"Enough of this!", the sound of the leader rings out as he and three other soldiers step up to face Vincent. Some soldiers from before also get back to their feet. Vincent clenches his teeth. He had to end this soon. "Aim for his legs!", the leader orders.

An axe man and two spearmen charge him. Vincent is able to knock the first spear aside while turning to bring the spear around to take out the axeman with the blunt end of the spear. However, he ducks out of the way and tries to land a hit at Vincent's leg. At the same time immediately after he misses Vincent turns the staff down blocking the blow with the other end of the spear.

The spearman from before attempts to sweep Vincent's legs with his spear only for Vincent to jump just enough to catch it without breaking his lock with the axeman and catch the spear under his feet. Turning his arms in the opposite direction Vincent breaks the lock with the axeman. Continuing the motion he knocks the axe out of the soldier's hand. Bringing the spear above his head as he releases the spear Vincent spins down to knock down both soldiers.

However, the second spearman takes the chance and charges him, managing to impale Vincent in his right shoulder as he stops. Gasps fill the air including from Colin. Vincent's face twists with pain but nothing more. Time seems like it slows down until Vincent smirks.

"If you think this will stop me then you definitely couldn't be a knight.", Vincent says lifting his eyes to the soldier. Before the soldier can react Vincent lunges towards the soldier resulting in the spear going through his body, but it doesn't stop him from landing a right jab to the frightened soldier's face knocking him out.
