The First Day

Both Gray and Ida reached the entrance to the Academy of Yorka. The bell rang, going through the entire kingdom. The academy was massive, it contained four different sections to the entire building with multiple floors and rooms. Around it, there was also its very own colosseum and medical facility as well.

Gray proceeded inside with Ida and went to the receptionist's desk. He had a few eyes staring at him, all of them noticing he was Gray Swayar—the kid who didn't have a talent. It did make sense for them to be so surprised though. Why is some random kid with no magic in a school that's basically for people with magic?

When he approached the receptionist, even she was a little confused about this reasoning. The receptionist, looking at the both of them, hands them a paper. Gray took the papers and observed them in hand. They seemed to be the schedules that were assigned to both Ida and him. "Don't worry, those are for you two. I remember you both quite well from your mother's yapping."

The comment didn't strike Gray that much as he somewhat expected this outcome to happen. "My mom does have a loud mouth when it comes to us..." Ida swooped in and snatched their schedules away from Gray's hand. Looking at the schedule, she was greeted with a surprise. "Why are we both in the same classes?!"

"It was a request from your mother as well; she demanded you both be in the same class." said the receptionist. Ida, who was flabbergasted, threw the schedules on the floor in a fit of anger. "Why do I have to be with you!" she said, screaming at Gray. Gray's frustration boiled up even more. For the past week that she lived with Gray's family, she had some sort of hatred against him. Gray was sick with this treatment; being treated like some freak in her eyes. He decided to shoot back with his own question in frustration. "What's your deal? You've been hating me ever since the day you joined our family!" Ida was speechless when confronted by Gray's vexation, she faltered in saying her words. "I-I..." Gray still heated, continued on by saying, "What the hell did I do to you, all I did was save you and now you treat me like trash?!"

"U-Uhm Gray, I-"

Cutting off Ida, the school bell rang, calling for all kids to go to their first class. The receptionist adjusted her glasses before getting back to her papers. "You both better get going, that was the bell for the first class to begin." she told them. Gray walked over to his schedule where it lay on the ground, not making eye contact with Ida. Without any more words, Gray walked to class, still leaving Ida speechless.

Gray entered the first class in his schedule—Magical Theory Class. Gray saw the class packed with kids, nearly a hundred in this giant room. He decided the best choice was to just go to the back where he couldn't be bothered or noticed by anyone. "Why did they even give me this class to begin with? I can't use magic." sitting down in the corner of the classroom, he observed the many students entering inside. In that crowd of students, there was Ida who also entered the room and made eye contact with Gray. For moments she gazed before averting her eyes away with a face of shame.

Gray had no remorse for going off on Ida like that; in fact, he felt really good about it. He always wanted to get that off his chest this entire time. "I saved her in the forest anyways, why is she harboring some hatred against me?" he recalled the previous events of this week of her living with him. Always gave him the silent treatment, avoiding him whenever he walked by, and even when Ben recommended ideas to open up her heart, she shut them down all the time! Though, Ben's main idea to make her more comfortable around him was to attempt to rizz her up—it didn't work.

Ida sitting in the row of seats right under Gray, didn't bother to look up at him. The windows to the classroom opened right up with a strong trail of wind flowing through. This wind carried leaves; alongside a full-blown human in a wizard robe. He was an elderly man in his 70s with an arm-length beard. "Greetings class, I am Storg, your Magic Theory teacher!" he was eccentric and had a rough wooden staff in his hand. Waving the staff, an orb is summoned in front of every student in the class. "Now, I know you are all young, so it's the perfect time for you to be practicing with your magic!"

Putting his hand on the orb, Storg placed a bunch of magical energy into it, making it change color. "You all know your Talents, right? If so, try channeling them into the orb in front of you, just like I am doing!" All of the students follow through, managing to do this as well. Unlike Gray though, he sat there doing nothing. He didn't want to bother attempting to do this when he didn't even have a talent. A few kids from down the row whispered things to each other while staring at Gray. One of them even said out loud while pointing at him, "Hey, that's Gray who doesn't even have a Talent, why is he in this class to begin with?!" Listening to this ticked off Gray even more. "Why would I know..." he muttered to himself.

Subsequently, Gray decided to check up on Ida to see how she was doing. Observing Ida's struggle, Gray noticed how she was desperately trying to make the orb flash some sort of change. Despite her struggles, all she did was nothing. ("What's up with her, doesn't she have a Talent?") he thought to himself.

After this first lesson, Storg began teaching other things. "The fundamentals of all spells come down to your Talents. Your Talent does determine what type of magic you will produce but you still need to craft different types of spells with the magic you have. For example—my talent is the Eagle—its magic is wind so I can produce wind when desired." Storg began manipulating a current of wind in the middle of the classroom, causing numerous papers to swirl around it. With a sudden dispersal of the current, the papers scattered in all directions.

"That was just me using my raw magic; if you employ spells, you'll achieve much better results." Storg explained. "Spells are either made by very simple formulas or very complex formulas, it just all depends on what you want it to do. You could find some of these formulas in scrolls or books but what I'd recommend is you craft your own!"

("Blah blah blah.") Gray was bored. He was tired of this and wanted to get to the next class already. "I don't even have a need for this class so why do I have this?" Gray slumping his head down once again looked at Ida. There were many students who also spoke quietly about her and pointed at her. Ida appeared to be a nervous wreck as if she was on the verge of crying. Gray wondered if she was okay until one kid began whispering something to Ida with a condescending demeanor smudged all over their face, causing Ida to be even more anxious.

Gray wanted to help out Ida so he skimmed at his surroundings to see if he could do anything. His eyes then connected with a pencil on the desk. ("Bingo.") he picked up the pencil and tossed it at the kid who was tormenting Ida. The pencil's eraser side smacked against their head, signaling the other bullies to glance over in Gray's direction. Ida also noticing this looked up at Gray with surprise. The kid beside Ida started rubbing the spot where they were struck and began to cry. It was loud and they even added a squeal to their sadness as well. Gray was startled. "I-I didn't expect them to cry from just a mere pencil..." Storg hearing the commotion flew in the air and descended right in front of the crowd. "What's going on here?" Storg asked.

The group of bullies pointed at Gray.

"He did it!"

"It was Gray!"

"Gray threw the pencil!"

They all shouted in unison.

Storg with an angered face looked down upon Gray before asking, "Is this true?"

Gray sighed with a tired expression, and replied by saying, "Yeah, it is."

("This first day sucks.")
