The silence of the forest wrapped the cabin in a soft, hushed cradle. It was the kind of quiet that should've brought peace, but for Abby, peace felt like something just out of reach.

She tossed and turned in the bed Elijah had set up for her in the guest room, sheets tangled, skin clammy, the moonlight casting long shadows through the window. Sleep had come in jagged waves, each one heavier than the last. Until, finally, it swept her into something deeper.

A dream.

But it didn’t feel like a dream.

It felt real, it was as if she was watching it happen through her own eyes.
