Chapter 34

Seeing the continues glitching in front of him, he can’t help but frown, having that sense of uncertainty and dread creeping into him.

The message box showing error continued popping atop of every single refugee there. Also, the familiar purple aura fully engulfed each of them now.

Then there’s the hooded person who released a sort of pulse, which seems to be the reason for it all. But what truly got to him was the exclamation point hovering above the person’s head.

“Sir Clifford, aren’t we going to help the young heroes?”

Hallor says, while keeping his gaze low in embarrassment and shame, since he understood they had already been told to wait.

It amazed him how the two other men could stay calm and keep watch while all of that was happening.

But seeing how the esteemed young heroes they look up to were having a hard time, along with the unknown creature wrecking havoc in the midst of all those innocent were making him itch for a fight.

The lad stops when he did not get an answer from his two companions, as the other elder warrior only gave him a meaningful glance. An abrupt silence came between all three of them as they focused their sights on the scene below.

“They seem to be having trouble, sir.”

Galford finally spoke, seeing how the group was being outnumbered and overrun. With how the enemies continued to stand up, it made things difficult for the five-man group.

Clifford was about to step in, when he sensed several presence closing in. He retreated into the shadows, wanting to avoid any trouble, since he hadn’t fully recovered. With how easily he got taken out last time, he was wary of the escort knights, afraid they might prove too much for him to handle.

“Seems help has arrived. Let’s stay a bit more, just to be on the safe side.”

A weak smile appeared on his face, having lost the chance to see the youngsters again. But with the number of people who were from the kingdom gathered there, he couldn’t risk being captured.

Also, there was the case of him seeing all those refugees having that error logo on top of their heads, even without his actual eyes.

It seems the problem was so immense; it was affecting his limited system. This made him think if this was the cause why he gets attacked whenever he uses his odd ability.

After considering that, he became more observant of their surroundings, scanning farther than he could to check if there were any enemies nearby.

Though nothing showed on his radar, he stayed wary. He worried for the safety of the young heroes, yet he had to trust and hope for the best, seeing as the group remained alert.

The youngsters were keeping a safe distance from their opponent, along with continuing their coordinated and continues attacks. But their opponents’ number and level were too far off.

His worried disappeared when he noticed some of the newcomer’s waiting nearby, probably weighing the outcome of the fight.

“They’re in danger. We need to help!”

Hallor almost jumped into the fray, seeing how the hooded being got close to one hero. Luckily, Clifford grab hold of the guy, as he saw the other group had acted.

“Sir Clifford?”

Galford frowned, also confused why they did not take action at that crucial moment.

“Settle down, he’s fine.”

He was keen to wave it off, smiling in relief at the speed of the person who went in and saved Pedro.

From the looks of it, he can say the fellow is an agility type, as a screen ‘Acquired quick-step’ popped out from his system.

“It’s the other heroes!”

Hallor jump in cheer at the sight of the new group.

That put the two people with him at ease, as they watched with awe and delight how newly arrived heroes began their assault against the enemies.

Clifford’s smile faded upon hearing that, his eyes immediately focused on every youngster that gathered there, disregarding the ones who look like from the kingdom. He noted their appearances and equipment to guess their classes.

He wanted to gain as much information as possible from that encounter, since he was unsure if he’d get another chance like that.

An immense battle rage on. Lights, debris, and magic flew from one place to the other.

At first, it seemed the two groups were even until some of the youth from the heroes’ team showed signs of tiredness. While the enemies didn’t show any, their energies also slowly depleted, as their regeneration slowed, along with their movements and attacks.

But the sheer number of the enemy made the battlefield one-sided, making the fight harder for the young heroes.

“Get ready. Looks like we will need to jump in after all.”

Clifford took a step for a closer to have a better view of what was happening.

Though the two groups continued to clash, it was clear who had the upper hand. The youngsters were losing breath and their attacks weren’t that flashy anymore, as they were only using low-level skills now.

It wasn’t that hard to guess that their hp and mp were low, considering none of them had anytime or chance to recover or regenerate. It became obvious to him what the outcome will be if this goes on.

“Is there a problem, sir?”

Galford closed in to get a closer view of the entire battlefield. Yet from his eyes, it seemed like their side was winning, as the horde of those corrupted refugees could barely land a hit. Also, seeing the youths brandishing their legendary weapons assured them of victory.

“Yes, the heroes got this! I’m sure of it, one more assault against that monster and they win!”

Hallor continued cheering for the youngster, elated by the sheer bravery and skills they were showing throughout the fight.

“They’re at their limit and outnumbered. It won’t take long before they are completely overrun.”

Clifford crouched, readying to dash forward.

He did that the moment he saw Arty lost his balance between retreating, along with Pedro no longer being able to do anything but watch from behind the lines, protected by Malver.

The corrupted had surrounded the group without their knowledge, as all of them were too busy evading and attacking to take notice.

There was also the case of the strongest opponent hiding behind the crowd, resting and gaining more strength. Its third eye was now three times bigger than before, along with releasing a far stronger aura that created a purple mist all around it.

He waited for an opening, being careful not to make a mistake. Considering how powerful the enemy was, he was sure he’d be no match against it in his current condition.

“Hallor, go help the heroes.”

Clifford ordered, squinting while he scoured the entire area one more time.

“For real!”

The lad’s eyes lit up, nearly falling from his place because of his joyous hopping from the excitement. It had been his dream to fight alongside the renowned heroes whom they’ve been hearing about.

“Are you certain, sir? You know how that child is.”

Galford was hesitant at the idea, because of how impulsive and rash the youth is, not to mention his lack of self control and experience.

“He has a skill that should be able to knock out that entire horde out without harming them. Will use that opportunity to take out the cause of all this.”

Clifford had already considered several of their options, and there was no other person suited for his plan to work than the young warrior.

Not wasting a second, Hallor jumps straight for the fray the minute he heard that. His smile reaching up to his ear.

“Prepare yourselves, fiends! Now you’ll face the might of Hallor Steimsgeil!”

He shouts while gliding down into the middle of the mob of infected refugees.

Clifford’s eyes remained glued on his target, still waiting for the right moment. Behind him was Galford, who couldn’t help but shift his gaze from his protégé and their leader, since he worried.

“Sir, I doubt we could take out that thing on our own.”

The old warrior swallowed hard, realizing who their opponent would be, seeing as there was only one being there whom Clifford had his sights on.

“Have a little faith in yourself, will you, Galford?”

He tried to sound as confident as he could, not wanting to further decrease their morale. Against an overwhelming being, he was unsure if even they can take it on.

He thought it would be possible if he had enough preparations, but with his meager arsenal right now, along with the enemy’s capabilities being unknown, it was almost impossible to know if they would win.

The refugees made things more complicated, since none of them wish to harm those innocent people who were obviously being affected that ominous purple aura.
