Chapter 20: Arriving ( 1 )

"How much longer is this cabin? If I have to see trees any longer I'll jump out this van."

Lucas complained as no one seemed to mind his words and remained silent as he continued to groan in his seat, whilst watching out the car window.

As more time passed we drove further and further away from modern civilization and slowly only saw trees and the wilderness.

With an aura of exhaustion floated around the car as everyone was ready to leave and stretch their seated legs.

But before long we soon saw the log cabin we were longing to see and stay at for the duration of the weekend.

Ralph slowly drove the car in front the cabin's stairs that led to the entrance and parked, allowing everyone to exit before driving off to store the car in a safer spot.

We turned toward the large cabin looking more similar to a mansion, it even being aesthetically lit with lamps and candles and its freshly wiped windows being as transparent as ever.

Stella and I stood there jaw dropped whilst the 'rich peo-', the others walked up the stairs with their luggage as if it was just another day in their lives.

"Are you two staying out here?" Theadore annoyingly said to us as if he was being embarrassed by our reactions.

"Stella why are you acting like that, you're used to doing stuff like this" He mindlessly said while walking up the stairs, not knowing those words seemed to irritate his sister.

As I stared at her with a confused look from her reaction, she ignored me and quickly walked up the stairs dragging her suitcase along the stairs and grabbing Theodore by the sleeve, taking him inside.

As they left me out in the wilderness alone and cold with nothing to do, I wandered off to help Ralph with taking the luggage out the car.

Everyone sat on the floor cross legged violently staring into each other's eyes, waiting for the slightest mistake from anyone that may cause them to end their turn for the night.

As Luna and Lucas sat on the opposite side of the table intently waiting for my next move.

I stared at Stella with vengeance in my eyes for the times she took her anger out on me as if I was a stuffed animal, I swiftly raised my hands and quickly brought it down to strike it…

On the table slapping a +4 her way, just for everyone to add on to it, returning it right back to my turn causing me to pick up sixteen cards.

"Un⚫ out" I watched Stella say as I sat there looking up at her as she excited stood up, while I still holding two hand full worth of cards within my fingers.

"Emmanuel, why do you have the entire deck?" Theodore said with his head raised from his phone as he laid on the couch.

"Why don't we play m⚫nop⚫ly instead? '' I quickly suggested thinking it would've changed the outcome but it was just words that made things worse.

I couldn't do anything besides stare at the board as I went bankrupt five times and lose it all to my wife.

I stared at the table of my losses, exhausted and irritated. I got off the floor and took a drink from the refrigerator. I wandered outside to stare at the stars you could only see in the countryside.

"Emmanuel, are you ok?" Stella said walking outside to meet me, as I stargazed and zoned out of reality, I didn't bother with her question instead asking her a question of my own.

"Stella, are you ashamed of your ubringing or your family? The way you got irritated by what Theodore said, are you not proud of growing up well off"

Without turning my back I guessed her expression and thoughts, but to my dismay she hugged me instead, only holding me tighter and tighter as if I asked a big question.

"I'm not ashamed of it fully, mostly cause it allowed me to meet you"

I couldn't respond to the response she gave nor did I think I needed to, instead I continued to watch the stars with my wife.
