[Urban Legend of Late-night Delivery] (Blue)
For three consecutive days, anonymously deliver wanted criminals or spirit beasts, bound inside a delivery box, to the Spirit Control Bureau at midnight. Among them, at least one criminal (or spirit beast) must possess strength no less than a Low-level Spirit Master (Extraordinary Rank). Before completing the challenge, your identity must not be discovered by the Spirit Control Bureau.
Entry Effect: You will become more mysterious. During the night, all attributes will experience a slight enhancement, and damage to criminals (or spirit beasts) will increase by 50%.
This is the longest entry Chen Mo has ever seen, and it seems to be part of a series.
The effect of the entry is decent, but the only thing Chen Mo doesn't understand is, what does "becoming more mysterious" mean?
Another entry for the weekly challenge is [Chatterbox] (Green), and the challenge is quite simple: just speak 2,000 sentences every day for seven days.
The effect is that the wearer will find themselves speaking involuntarily, and the sound wave attack will have penetration damage.
It's quite amusing for a prank, but the practical effect isn't great.
Chen Mo chose to refresh without hesitation, and the new entry is [Strong Will] (Green), which can suppress 90% of pain.
The entry challenge is quite odd; it requires enduring Level III pain for one hour.
It's useful, but still somewhat lacking compared to [Urban Legend].
Chen Mo decisively passes, mainly because he doesn't want to harm himself.
"However, it's definitely unrealistic to complete the Urban Legend challenge relying solely on one's own power. Although information on wanted criminals can be found online, searching for them on my own is like finding a needle in a haystack."
"If I had joined the Spirit Control Bureau earlier, perhaps I could have tracked their whereabouts. Forget it, I'll ask Sister Meng later."
Speak of the devil, and he shall appear.
At this moment, Chen Mo's phone rings, and it's Chen Meng calling.
"After going back yesterday, I reviewed the relevant information. This crystal core fragment does not match any currently known Water Element Dominator Stage Spirit Beast Crystal Core. After scanning its internal structure, the research department has preliminarily restored a structural model of this crystal core. It is speculated to be a fragment of a Totem-level Spiritual Beast's crystal core."
Chen Meng was referring to the unknown spirit beast crystal core.
As soon as she returned to Blue Star yesterday, she had a research team study the crystal core, and there's already preliminary progress today.
"The most probable candidate is the Totem-level Spiritual Beast Chi Wen, which was once killed by the military with a nuclear bomb."
Chen Mo suddenly remembered—
Hundreds of years ago, at the beginning of the Penglai Secret Realm, the Blue Star People used a nuke to kill a Totem-level Spiritual Beast.
So it was this one.
"Currently, the value of this crystal core fragment is far above a Monarch Stage Crystal Core, so excluding the Heart of the Sea, I still owe you some money. Once the value is assessed, I'll transfer it to you."
On the other end of the line, Chen Meng's voice was calm and graceful, matching her personality.
"There's no need to stand on ceremony with money, Sister Meng! I would like your help with a little favor."
Chen Mo said with a smile.
"What favor?"
On the other end of the call, Chen Meng's voice carried a hint of helplessness.
This kid sure has a lot going on.
"Sister Meng, do you have any friends in the Spirit Control Bureau? I'd like to look through some of the wanted criminals' files, preferably for those with known whereabouts."
"What are you up to?"
Chen Meng was somewhat puzzled.
"With the trip to the Spirit Realm coming up, I'm feeling a bit nervous and want to catch a few wanted criminals to get some practice, and improve my combat skills in the process."
Chen Meng: "?"
Is this kid not right in the head?
"You're not one of the Spirit Control Bureau's contracted hunters, generally speaking, you aren't allowed to access the wanted criminals' files."
Chen Meng sighed, then changed the subject:
"However, our company happens to have long-term business dealings with the Spirit Control Bureau. I'll introduce you to someone; she's the liaison officer responsible for coordinating with our company's hunters at the bureau."
Since entering the Spirit Era, the urban crime rate has actually been on the rise. Moreover, if a Spirit Master commits a crime, the harm they can cause is much greater due to their mastery over spirit beasts.
So the Spirit Control Bureau is actually quite busy; sometimes, they even delegate certain cases to large companies' Spirit Masters for investigation or capture.
Those who assist in case investigations are called "Hunters."
Most hunters are formal employees in the combat divisions of large corporations. After fulfilling their basic security duties, they take some "private work" during their spare time.
"Thank you, Sister Meng!"
Chen Mo expressed his gratitude.
Indeed, there's no better person to rely on for help than Granny Meng!
Chen Mo opened the postcard and sent a friend request to the other party.
The other party quickly accepted, likely because Chen Meng had already spoken to her.
The liaison officer's ID was Meow Meow Sect Leader, with an avatar of a cute and adorable white kitten, seemingly a girl.
"What type of wanted criminal files do you need?"
Without waiting for Chen Mo to ask, the other party proactively sent a message.
"Preferably those with traceable clues, and the wanted criminals should have spirit beasts with power around the Transcendent stage."
"OK, I'll find some for you. If you have time, come to the bureau to collect them and sign a confidentiality agreement."
"Can I come over now?"
"Sure."
So Chen Mo got up, quickly freshened up, and headed straight for the Spirit Control Bureau.
At Building 8, he took three files from a short-haired, round-faced girl, signed the confidentiality agreement, and then left.
When he got home, Chen Mo opened the three files one by one.
The first file, numbered C267, concerned a 30-year-old Spirit Master wanted for driving his spirit beast to kill his fiancée and her lover after his eight-year relationship ended in betrayal prior to marriage. He then hid the bodies and fled. Eight days ago, he was last seen in the wooded outskirts of Shenghai City.
His spirit beast is a Transcendent 1-stage Little Rock Monster.
The second file, numbered C286, involved a Cultist from the "Four Gods Sect." Half a year ago, the Spirit Control Bureau dismantled the sect's base in Shenghai City, killing several leaders, though a few cultists managed to flee amidst the chaos.
The last reported sighting of these cultists was a day ago near a supermarket in Ming City Square, East District of Shenghai City. They were recognized by the supermarket owner after purchasing daily necessities and after they left, the owner reported it to authorities.
However, after retrieving surveillance footage, the Spirit Control Bureau agents found that only one camera captured their exit. Moreover, there was a "snowflake" flicker lasting five seconds, and then the cultists mysteriously vanished.
The spirit beast power of these four cultists roughly ranges from Awakened 9th Rank to Transcendent 2-stage.
The third file, numbered C210, was about the owner of a spirit beast breeding shop who became wanted for long-term abuse of spirit beasts. He was last seen in a rural area of Shenghai City. His spirit beast is a Transcendent 1-stage Black Flame Dog.
After reviewing the three files, Chen Mo quickly made up his mind.
He decided to go after the Cultist group from the second file!
