CHAPTER 8

Alina walked around with Nolan from ward to ward as they checked up on patients but suddenly Alina's stomach grumbled.

Nolan turned to her in the middle of his conversation with the Freshmen doctors on hearing the sound coming from her stomach.

Alina yawned tiredly holding her stomach.

There will be no end to this lectures and teachings. I'm so tired, he should let us go home. I have being patiently waiting for the week to run so fast and now I'm stuck with him today been Friday of all days. Alina groaned in her head and she yawned again.

"That will be all for today. It's time we all go have our dinner. You're all dismissed" Nolan announced and a bright smile appeared on Alina's face.

"Thank you so much professor" Alina said excitedly about to leave but Nolan grabbed her collar from behind with one of his fingers.

"And where do you think you're going?" Nolan asked coldly and Alina turned to him a bit confused about his question.

"You dismissed all of us right?" Alina uttered.

"Good night professor" The doctors said in chorus and left the office.

The doctors walked down the lobby.

"Poor girl, she's really getting it tough from professor Nolan. I don't think she will be having dinner tonight" The doctors uttered.

"I find it fishy though. Professor Nolan is putting extra concern in Alina. He doesn't act that way around ladies even though they get on his nerves but Alina's case is different, he's making it so obvious" The female doctor among uttered.

....

"Professor, what kind I help you with? Everyone left already for dinner and today's Friday," Alina said slowly.

"Can you mention a thing or two you learned from me today? You've been going around with me for hours, you must have learnt something right?" Nolan asked and Alina looked at him suspiciously.

I'm not liking this. Why's he putting so much interest? I get it that he helped me when I passed out but I will really love it if we go back to the way things were, at least by now I might be having delicious dinner at home. Alina complained in her head.

"I'm waiting for your response"

How am I supposed to process the whole thing when I can't even think straight anymore. I'm so famished. Alina screamed in her head.

"Nurse Alina, are you even listening to me?" Nolan asked seriously and Alina nodded sluggishly.

"Professor, how about you ask me about it tomorrow? I think I will be ready to answer all your questions then" Alina said tiredly.

"Have you ever seen a student postponing a fixed exam?"

"I'm sorry professor but I can't recall a thing but I can remember the patients we attended to" Alina uttered and Nolan bite his lower lip frustratedly.

"And why can't you recall a thing? Why did you think I told you to stick around? What were you thinking exactly? Don't get me wrong, I'm way too special to take my time and give you a tour around only for you not to remember a thing. I guess you're not going home early today" Nolan said and walked to his table.

"I'm sorry professor. I was clueless, I had no idea that was your intentions. I thought you only told me to stick around so I run some errands for you. I promise to be attentive next time but please can I go home now?" Alina asked and Nolan looked at her with cold looks in his eyes.

"You're not going home early today. Go through all the reports here and take down the important points. The patients we checked on today, have rare cases which I'm pretty sure you've never come across so go through them carefully before leaving for the day. That's your reward for not being attentive. You can sit on the couch" Nolan said and packed the pile of reports on the table and placed them on a couch.

Alina's jaw dropped.

"Professor, you mean all of it?" Alina asked curiously almost in tears and Nolan nodded.

"All of it and you're not going home if you don't go through all of it. Finish it up" Nolan instructed

"What would you want for dinner? I'm not planning on starving you so don't get me wrong" Nolan added and Alina glared at him.

"I just lost my appetite so don't bother. I've got more than enough on my plate" Alina said hiding her sorrow and tired tears.

"Suit yourself" Nolan shrugged and left the office.

Alina sat on the ground completely dumbfounded.

"Is this what he meant by a reward? This is more of like a punishment" Alina said frustratedly as she looked at the pile of reports from where she was seated.

Well, let's get this over and done with. Dad must be waiting for me at home, same with Aria. She must be waiting for my call as well. Alina said in her head then stood up from the ground.

She walked to the couch and sat down.

"I was known for being the fastest student at reading. This wouldn't be a big deal for me" Alina said and packed her hair with the ribbon on her hands.

She picked up one of the reports and frowned.

I haven't even started, why is it so hard? Alina groaned in her head almost in tears.

Minutes went by....

Alina was done with one of the reports when Nolan walked into the office with a food pack on his hands.

Alina looked at him and continued what she was doing. She ignored him completely. He walked up to her and placed one of the food pack on the couch.

"You can't work with an empty stomach but it's also fine if you don't eat, that's left for you" Nolan said coldly then went to his seat.

He unpacked his own food and quietly digged into it.

Alina watch him eat quietly.

Watching him eat makes him looks very pitiful. How lonely must he be feeling to learn to eat so quietly and carefully? He must have it hard as well. Alina said in her head and she stood up.

She carried the food pack and joined Nolan on his table.

"Please allow me sit here. I can't eat alone so allow me join you on your table" Alina said and sat down.

Nolan looked at her.

"How do you plan on eating with your mask on? Or do you have super powers on how to inhale food" Nolan uttered.

Oh on, I didn't think of that. Who am I to be sympathetic to anyone? I forgot for a second about my own problems. Being generous can be quite harmful and dangerous sometimes. Alina said in her head without uttering a word out.

"You can take it off, I won't look. I'm not interested in whatever you look like after all so there's nothing for you to worry about. You keep acting suspicious, these are the consequences it carries and you will have to keep on doing that till the very day you regret ever doing it in the first place. You're the first human I've seen who despises her being so much. Why are you so obsessed with your looks? Does it make you feel any better covering your face all the time? For long will you keep that up? You might have succeeded in doing that for years but how many more years will you have you have to keep up with it. For now, everyone's keeping their mouths shut but they will soon start to talk and dangerous rumours about you will begin to spread. You will become segregated. Do you plan to live your life that way?" Nolan fired without even realising when Alina's tears roll down without any hesitation.

"You're terrible with words. And who are you to tell me such things? You might be my senior here at work but when it comes to my private life, stay out of it. I really hate it when people become too nosy. Just because you rescued me when I passed out doesn't mean we've grown close enough for you to tell me such words. I'm sorry professor but I will continue with studying of the reports on Monday. Excuse me" Alina said bitterly then left the office without even looking back.

"What's wrong with her?" Nolan uttered angrily then stood up. He ran after Alina.

"Alina, Alina" Nolan called out after sighting Alina but she didn't stop walking.

Nolan caught up with her and he held her hand.

"Don't get over yourself. I'm not nosy. You've got a problem with yourself and that's why you find it upsetting that you're being told the truth. I don't care with whatever you do with your life, it's none of my business but right now, I'm sorry but I've got to interfere in your life and that's why I will be dropping you off at home. It's pretty dark" Nolan said and Alina shoved his hands off.

"I will rather walk than get a ride from you, I'm sorry professor but I can't accept your request. I really want to be alone. Good night" Alina said with a frown and walked away.

Later at night....

Nolan kept tossing on his bed and he came out to the sitting room to get himself a can of beer.

"Nolan get me one as well" Matthew said from the floor and Nolan shrunk in fear.

"You scared me! Since when have you been laying there? When did you even get here?" Nolan asked seriously.

"Like thirty minutes ago" Matt said and stood up.

He joined Nolan at the couch.

"You don't usually wake up at night. What's wrong?" Matt asked.

"You don't drive late at night as well so what happened? You had a misunderstanding with your group members?" Nolan asked.

"Nolan, this is a testimonial from an Idol. Promise me, you won't allow any of your children to become an idol when they grow up?"

Nolan chuckled at his statement.

"You only make statements like this when you're stressed out. No profession is easy to pursue so I don't think I will stop any of my children from chasing after their dreams and being an artist is pretty cool. It's admirable as well, you get all the attention and you get paid handsomely for reciprocating the attention to your fans, isn't that amazing" Nolan said with a smile.

"Trying to butter me up but it's not working. I will be starting my contract with Aria tomorrow. We will be announcing it to the whole world tomorrow on a live stream" Matt said frustratedly then snatched the beer on Nolan's hand. He gulped down a large quantity in a blink.

"Take it easy. It's finally time for you to get entangled with that bratty girl. You've got to gather all the energy in your body if possible. You can't let her walk over you all over again" Nolan advised and Matt nodded.

Nolan relaxed his back and slide his hands into his pocket.

Did she get home safely? Why am I being unnecessary worried about her? Nolan questioned in his head.

"You've got a girlfriend?" Matt threw in and Nolan laughed.

"What sort of ridiculous question is that? Why would I even have a girlfriend? I'm still hurting from my past one so how do you expect me to go into another one after all that"

"I don't think you're still hurting. You've moved on and that was like ten years ago. You're only using that as an excuse" Matt said.

"Are you saying, I lied"

"Who's she and why does she keep bothering you? You meet with her at the hospital everyday right?" Matt asked and Nolan looked at him in shock.

"Don't be too shocked. I know exactly how it feels, why not call her to clear your doubts" Matt teased.

"It's nothing close to what you're thinking right now so drop it and it's none of your business" Nolan said sarcastically and left for his room.

Should I call her or text her? If I text her, she might think I'm acting like we're close and if I call, she might think I'm darn worried about her. Nolan said in his head staring at him phone and he closed his eyes as he placed a call across to Alina and she took the call immediately.

"Hello, who's this?" Alina asked loudly over the phone because the music in her background was quite very loud.

What! She's at a club when I'm here worrying myself out. Nolan gasped in his head in shock.
