CHAPTER 10

Alina pushed the mirror away as she covered her mouth in shock.

Aria stared at her with curiosity written all over her face.

"Ria, are you trying to say, the person I just saw now is ...me?" Alina stuttered and Aria nodded with a smile.

"Of course it's you Alina. Do you still believe what people said about you in the past?" Aria asked and Alina stood up from the couch panting around.

"It can't be me, Ria. I know exactly what I looked like and the person I just saw, looks nothing like me. I don't have such fair skin, I've always had dark spots from acne on my face" Alina panicked and Aria held her hand.

"I understand how you feel but you're only feeling this way because it feels like your face is that of a stranger but let's go slowly Lina. It's time to go to bed, you need to rest now. You've had a rough week. Let's go to bed" Aria said with a smile as she walked with Alina to her room.

"Aria I really want to talk about this. I've got a mixed and burning feeling inside. I don't think I'm going to sleep peacefully tonight" Alina said slowly almost in tears.

"You really look cute when you sound that way. Lina, I'm not going to force you into doing anything and it's best we continue this conversation some other day and you've got to accept the real you. Let's go to bed" Aria said and lay down on the bed.

Alina joined her sluggishly.

What the hell is going on? Why do I look like that? Is this the result of not looking at the mirror for years? I'm supposed to be happy for not looking that bad but I feel even more terrible just thinking about it. I feel so much anger inside of me, is this normal as well? Alina thought in her head as she forcefully shut her eyes.

"Good night Lina" Aria said in a sing song and Alina opened her eyes.

I shouldn't show off my anger. Aria might feel bad about that. This is her first night over after so long, I shouldn't ruin it for her with her problems. Alina uttered in her mind.

"I thought you wanted to go clubbing? And are you going to sleep with all your makeup on or you plan on sneaking out when I've fallen asleep?" Alina threw in and Aria laughed.

"Thanks for reminding me Lina. I almost forgot I have makeup on and what am I going to wear?" Aria pouted as she sat up.

Alina got out of the bed.

"I will get you something from my closet so go wash your face" Alina instructed and walked to her wardrobe.

NEXT MORNING.....

Alina woke up in a hurry, thinking she was late for work.

"Oh no!" Alina gasped and got out of bed to head to the bathroom but the ray of light from the window shone on the mirrors decorated around the room.

Alina walked to one of the mirrors and immediately her hands went up to her face as she caressed it slowly. Tears roll down her cheeks controllably.

She touched her tears and she looked at it.

"What are these tears for? Why am I shading tears right now," Alina questioned but the tears kept rolling down.

She ran out of the room to the sitting room, only to find mirrors around the sitting room as well.

Sam was seated at the dinning table about to have breakfast.

"Dad, what's all this?" Alina managed to utter but Sam gave her a sad look.

"I'm sorry dear, I tried to stop Aria but she insisted that we place the mirrors everywhere. She said this is best for you and I agree completely with her Alina. You keep healing your patients, it's hight time someone heals you as well" Sam said and Alina furrowed her eyebrows with the tears still rolling down.

"Dad, I never told anyone I needed healing. I'm doing just fine, I don't want or need all this. I get it that the both of you are worried and care about me a lot but you're only complicating things if you keep forcing me to become a different person. Can't you just leave me be!" Alina yelled and ran out of the house.

"Alina" Sam called as he stood up immediately but she left already.

Alina walked around the streets forgetting she wasn't having her mask on. She sat down at a bench along the road.

I thought Aria said all I need is time so why's she trying so hard with all this. It's hard for me as well, I want to accept reality but I can't just let go of my past which put me through so much. If it's all true then why did I go through all that in the first place. Alina said in her head as she wiped off her tears and just then it hit her hard that she wasn't putting on her mask.

Alina looked around with fear written all over her face. People kept on staring at her with admiration but she saw it as a hateful look on their faces.

Alina covered her face with her palms and then ran away from that spot. She ran to a corner to catch her breath.

~"With a face like that, no one would dare make friends with you. There's no need to think deep about why your mother left you. She left because she despises herself for giving birth to a human looking monster like you" ~ Alina reminisces on the words of the bullies who tormented her in the past and her chest suddenly began to feel congested.

She found it hard breathing. Alina held her chest hit as she gasped for air. She slowly sat on the ground.

Someone please help me. It suffocating out here. Alina said in her head faintly.

"Alina!" Nolan called out in shock on seeing her on the ground.

He rushed over to her.

"Profes..." Alina couldn't utter it all out.

"Safe your breath Alina but can you hear me right now? Can you see me?" Nolan asked curiously waving in front of Alina's eyes and she nodded slowly.

"Good, don't shut your eyes. I will be right back" Nolan said and ran into a convenience store nearby.

He bought a bottle of water for Alina then rushed back to her but she was slowly running out of oxygen.

"Have some water and take a deep breath" Nolan said as he uncorked the bottle and place it on Alina's lips as he fed her the water with his hands.

"Try to gulp down even though it's a few drop" Nolan advised and Alina gulped down some sip.

"Take a deep breath and exhale. Do it repeatedly" Nolan instructed and she followed his instructions.

Slowly, Alina began to catch her breath.

"You're a brave girl so I believe you can overcome this. Look at me in the face, you will be fine Alina. Trust me. Have some water" Nolan comforted and Alina drank some sip again.

"Thank you professor Nolan" Alina said slowly.

"Can you stand?" Nolan asked and Alina nodded. He stood up and gave out his hands for her to use as support.

"You're not putting on your mask today?" Nolan noticed and Alina tried to cover her face with her hair as they took a walk.

"I wouldn't have known it's you if I hadn't seen your bare face the other day but how did you end up having a panic attack along the street?"

"I wouldn't be here if I knew I would be experiencing one here" Alina said sarcastically.

"Since, I got to you on time. Let me drop you off at home" Nolan said as they got to where his car was parked.

"Thank you for the offer but I wouldn't want to bother you so please go ahead. I'm sorry for disturbing your jog out" Alina said and Nolan looked at his outfit.

"Don't be sorry, I only visited the gym house over there and I'm done with my workout. Dropping you off at home is best for the both of us. You can't keep roaming about after what just happened, you need to rest so allow me drive you home"

Alina fidgeted having second thoughts about it.

I really don't wish to go back home now but it seems like he's not letting me off easily. Alina said in her head, as she thought hard on what to say to Nolan.

"You don't want to go home?" Nolan asked and Alina looked at him shock.

Did he just read my mind? Alina questioned in her head.

"The look on your face says it all. Fine, I will take you somewhere instead. I'm guessing you haven't had your breakfast yet, me neither. Let's go have breakfast" Nolan said politely and Alina looked at him suspiciously.

Why's he suddenly being nice to me? He has never showed me such concern before. Something's fishy. Alina thought with her eyes fixed on Nolan.

"Are you coming or not?" Nolan asked as he walked to the other side of the car.

"I'm coming" Alina cut in slowly then hopped in.

Nolan drove off.

Aria and Matthew were seated at a very fancy restaurant with their shades on.

"I'm supposed to be the one wearing that face expression not you. So put on some smile. Reporters are hanging around, don't flop this" Aria said seriously.

Matthew smiled widely and held her hand gently.

"I'm doing this because I've got no choice so I love your cooperation" Matthew said with a smile.

The reporters hanging around took quick shots of the moment.

"They are so in love" The reporters gossiped excitedly.

"Aria why did you push me back then at the Grammy awards? I only walked to you to say hi just like every normal artist so what was your rude approach all about?" Matt asked seriously and Aria smiled as she caressed the back of his palm.

"I might be an artist but I don't return all kinds of gesture. I don't like you and that's why I did that. Is it wrong of me to someone like you irritating and annoying?" Aria said in a relaxed tone.

"That's quite harsh coming from you when I'm your senior and I should have been the one who receives gestures from you not the other way around"

"I don't work in the same agency as you so cut the crap" Aria said coldly.

Matt clenched his other hand that was under the table.

"I think this is it. I don't think I will be able to cope with this. You and I can't work together under this circumstance" Matt fired.

"You can't back out now. You've signed the contract already and I really hate unfinished business"

"I will pay the fine for the breach of contract. Will that do?" Matt asked with a blank expression.

"Of course, I hate losing money as well" Aria said with a smile.

"Well, that's settled then. We don't have to push this any further. I don't know if it was nice working with you but it was quite a cooperation" Matt said and shook Aria.

"I don't give compliments on business so please don't expect any from me. Have a nice day" Alina said as she stood up and head out of the restaurant immediately.

Matthew bite his lower lips as he pride got hurt a little.

It's no big deal. I'm done with her issue once and for all. Matt said in his head seriously.

"What the hell was he thinking? Was he thinking I was going to beg him to not back out of tge contract. He should dream on" Aria scoffed as she got into her car.

Nolan got to a cool road side and parked his car.

They both got down from the car and sat down at a bench with an umbrella on top.

Nolan came back to where Alina was sitting with a little bag on his hand.

"Breakfast" Nolan said and handed one hamburger and a fruit juice to Alina.

"Thank you..." Alina said quite disheartened.

What's this? Just hamburgers. I thought he was going to take me to some cool restaurant to have breakfast but this. How can a doctor be this petty? Alina said in her head glaring at Nolan who was devouring his hamburger already.

"I never knew you're materialistic as well" Nolan said out of the blue and Alina started coughing.
