Chapter Thirteen

CHAPTER THIRTEEN

My eyes are throbbing from my restless night.

It’s evident that no one really got a lot of rest. Crankiness is in the air.

“Will you stop stomping on every dry leaf you see?!” Isabel suddenly snaps at Quill.

“I stepped on one!” he scowls. “And what is your problem?!”

“You’re my problem!” Isabel is ready to bite his head off, and I have no choice but to intervene.

“Calm down,” I step in between the two. “We’re all tired, Isabel. There’s no need to target Quill for no reason.”

“You’re right,” her sight sets on me. “This is your fault. Where even are we?! We’re so far off the trail that even a map is useless at this point!”

“We’re trying to track Jesse’s scent, Isabel,” I try to infuse patience into my voice even though I’m fast running out of it.

“Oh, are you?” her tone is mocking. “Why is it that you’re the only one who seems to be able to even smell that. Because I certainly can’t.”

My jaw tightens. “Maybe because you’ve never met him.”
