"No!" I scream, refusing to accept what has just happened. "No! Gavin!"
I lean closer, my trembling hand cupping his cheek, smearing the blood there. And then I kiss him, again and again.
"Oh please, wake up," I beg. "I will kiss you no matter how many times you want... So please, wake up..." I cry out, but there is only silence.
"You say I belong to your side. How am I going to be by your side when you are already dead?!"
His aides snap out of their stupor and rush to me. "Lady Lyrica, we need to leave," one of the aides says, pulling me away from Gavin's corpse.
"No..." I whisper. "Just leave this place. Leave me alone here."
But the aide, a burly man with an eye patch, is insistent. "But, my lady. You know what's at stake. We cannot afford to lose you, either. We know you carry his child."
"I say, leave me!" I scream, causing my shackles to reverberate again, but even if I escape from my shackles, it is too late.
